No offence taken (or intended!) :-)

Figures plucked out of thin air,but this springs to mind:

20% of road accidents are caused by drunk drivers .....

This means that 80% are down to sober drivers ...

Get the sober drivers off the road and let us drunks drive in peace !!
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

And if a lot of businesses had to seriously deal with a FOI/Open Gov data sharing environment they wouldnt know if they were coming or going.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.

Just out of interest would an IVA/BR stop you vetting people because the argument is easily extended to those in the vetting positions in that an applicant for security vetting who discovers the vetter has an IVA or is BR can then use blackmail or bribery to gain clearance when otherwise it whould be denied?

Yes,I would never have been allowed to do that role once my finances had deteriorated. During and since my IVA I've been restricted to far less sensitive (and more mundane) civil service positions.

I remember once reading the percentage of people who did not believe surveys! Could you really trust their answer?

Don't like the implication that people in IVA are more likely to commit insurance fraud, this is the sort of misconception that blights people like myself and my husband. Our debt problems arose due to business failure and unexpected pregnancy and we decided to set up IVA's to deal with issue and I do resent being treated like a criminal by insurance companies and mobile phone providers and the like. I could probably get insurance easier if I had a criminal record than I can with an IVA

Hear hear!!

I too hate the stigma. That feeling of having a shameful secret. The ridiculous thing was, whilst I was juggling credit card balances and robbing Peter to pay Paul I felt no such shame!

There seems to be no shame in a mountain of debt, despite the fact you're buying £2 of petrol on a maxed out credit card to get to work...

But do something proper and decisive to solve the problem and your suddenly your tarred and feathered!

However, on balance I think insurance companies fear that people in an IVA have little spare cash and are more likely to claim whereas someone a bit more flush might just take the hit to save their no-claims.

I like to think it's more that than thinking we'll defraud them.

NFU mutual pointed out to my wife that they couldnt offer cover due to our insolvency meaning we were a higher risk of making fraudulent claims.

Right on wrong, the above statement is a fact.

Their loss as we took our business elsewhere.

As a side note, some insurance policies small print states that entering a formal insolvency may in fact cancel the policy, MAY being the key word.

Shop around folks.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
