The Head of my son's six form college refused to obey the Govenors - he told them they are living in "cloud cuckoo land" they wanted the students to wear a Haris Tweed Jacket and twill trousers! He got away with it - the students wear their ordinary clothes so long as they are tidy

Andy on the school uniform point my son told me that he thinks more than half of the students at his school have parents who are on benefits. No wonder the Head blew his top

Well one way of solving this is to reduce your contributions by 15% to allow for any extra costs for the kid's uniforms - check with your respective IP's.

Hi David thanks for comments re reducing IVA. This is not needed as I have started back to work so my IVA payments are increasing, not a problem, but the clothing allowance I put in I&E would still mean my payments would go up, so not trying to stop creditors getting money, in fact if I had purchased clothes for myself and hubbie over last 3 years then the payments would have had to go down.

I feel like I'm being penalised for being frugal and honest and making do and looking scruffy, but was prepared to carry on if it meant getting through IVA, it's just come to the fact I have literally nothing to wear (holes can no longer be mended), oh well just have to try and cut down else where (although I'm not sure if this is possible).

Contact your IP direct Mrs Purple, rather than the office staff. You can find him/her via this link:

http://www.insolvency-service.co.uk/newipsearch.htm

You need to explain about the fact that your clothing allowance needs to be more as you all need new clothes.

I hope that he/she is sympathetic to your needs.

That's just ridiculous ladyh!

Why can't they just leave the unforms alone? I think it's stupid as well to insist that they have an outer coat which has the logo on. My daughter just had to have a sweatshirt or jumper with the logo on, plus the school tie.

How really generous of them to buy a tie!

Perhaps all the parents ought to get together and refuse to buy the new uniform.

All I can say is that they must have more money than sense!

If it ain't broke - don't fix it! That's always been my motto.

I hope you can manage to sort something out without having to tag anything on the end of your IVA.

I know how hard you are working towards this and you've not long to go now.

That is a big rise, amd you are right that they always put the decent offer on the booze and the stuff you don't really need.

We buy as many basics and own brands as we can (although there are some things like eggs, which I won't compromise on.)

The bills still seem to go up though.

I'm hoping that my food bill will go down when the fruit and veg successfully grows on the allotment (hopefully) I share with my sister. (First time growers!!)

If any of you are thinking of getting an allotment I would recommend it. Yearly rent is between £45 - £60 (in Manchester) and if you can share with someone even better. Of course you will have to find some money for tools but you can sometimes pick them up in second hand shops or on ebay or freecycle.

You get good exercise (although a bit back breaking at times!!); you are out in the fresh air, socialising with other plot members (who are very helpful and will offer seeds and plants if you don't have any) and if you can get your children interested is somewhere cheap to go at the weekend or in holiday time.

I don't know if you are aware Jan, that there is a forum for allotment users where you can pick up tips or ask questions.

I'm sure admin won't mind me posting the link:

http://www.allotments-uk.com/

Good luck with the fruit and veg.

A guideline for petrol and parking with cccs is 130 pound a month. Sorry but im close to 200 pound a month if not more. These guidlines are ridiculous to be fair.

Which is why you need to put down exactly what you spend. I never bothered with any guidelines, just went through the bank account for all the DD's and then put down exactly what we spent on food etc.
