well i put my name down for council housing as hubby and me are seperating, well after going today to verify my identity with passport and driving license im told i have 0 points
WHY you ask
because im in adequate housing (3 bedrooms with 2 kids)
one is 16 one is 5 one is a boy one is a girl, they state im not over crowded and are not in need of housing
ok fair enough BUT dont they take your circumstances into consideration? i mean that the atmosphere here is horrendous with constant mental and verbal abuse etc
[:(]

RANT OVER :)

Have you checked out any private rented accommodation?

The other thing you could check out, if you are suffering abuse, is a womens refuge. I don't think you have to be a battered wife to use them.

You could possibly find a number at your local library?

If it's anything like the ones near me, they usually give you a flat. There's always housing associations? You could try them.

LD,

I know this is going to sound really harsh but contact your local refuge debt. I had exactly the same problem, our house was bought, I applied to go on the council as I was scared of my OH. They helped me tremednously, at first they threw him out of our house but I couldnt relax. I cant go into any more detail here but I had to be moved out and it was very quick. The council housing points system is rigid and its not likely that they will be thinking outside of the box. There are exceptions and youre one of em.

freelili you are not harsh, why do you always think you are?
i know they have restrictions and all that but come on seems they dont take situations into consideration at all, when i told the lady today my situaltion i could see form her face that she couldnt believe i had no points either she said make an appointment to see a housing officer, friend told me to go to drs and get a note make of stress and depression then that goes on your form etc

You keep pestering them as much as you can. Someone, somewhere must be able to help you find a suitable property.

refuge offered me a place to talk, I didnt get battered either, just constant verbal abuse, threats of physical abuse if I didnt tow the line. I went along to the meetings, told all and they couldnt believe it, they said it was abuse in the worst form. They helped me a lot, they get houses very quickly, they did me, I had 3 small children and a newborn.

I dont know if Doctors note would be as effective, you need some outside agency working for you.

Its not that the individual officers employed by the council dont care, they scatched their heads with me when I had to move recently due to the disablities affecting my children. The computer just blows a gasket or something with anything out of the box, like errr 4 people 3 bedrooms, errr sorted. Actually no it isnt because no one can share. Bang.... computer bits everywhere.

LD

I am here for you whenever, I got a leaflet from the Doctors, I hid it though and when I read it, I rang the number. They were fantastic, they even offered to pick me up, there were all sorts of people from all walks of life, its a big problem that I had kept hidden for so long. Its not so tabboo now.

I couldnt move from the area as my children were settled in special schools but far enough away for him not to bother us.

They will do everything in their power for the kids, they know the kids suffer it all too. They will understand what youre going through LD. You cant stay living like that, can you?? I dont think the council understand this. But once they have an outside source working with them, they will help you.

Good luck, I hope you will contact them soon.
