Happy New Year to all!
Just to let you know that whilst in an IVA it is possible to overcome credit checks on some occasions !!
Yesterday I went sale window shopping and walked into a mobile phone store who i currently have a contract with. I asked them if I could take out a broadband mobile dongle contract for 18 months - they went through all the necessary paperwork and checks etc and then did a credit check - embarrassingly it came back as a declined - even though I am already a customer of theres and have been with an excellent payment record for over 3 years ! Upset and angry I walked out and thought sod it !
Today I decided to go on their website and look into this further. I entered the companies "chat room" and explained what had happened -they suggested I applied online to see if that made a difference - sure enough I went through the process and after a few anxious minutes of waiting it was accepted - the mobile dongle will arrive on Saturday !
Perseverance and considering other ways just shows it is worth it in the end !

Thanks Skippy - we are already on broadband at home but I am now travelling around quite alot for work and need to keep tracks on our bank accounts etc so we thought this would a cheap way of doing so - we were given a mini laptop for xmas (netbook) so we are now very techno in our house - bit scary really but fun !

Going camping will now be easier too - I will be able to log onto the forum and with a glass in wine in one hand, and the laptop in the other I will be able to communicate and log into the forum regularly !

Sounds good! I'm gradually getting into the 21st century, but that's a bit advanced for me!

One word of caution though - anyone obtaining new credit does have to consider the terms of their proposal which might require the permission of your Supervisor (IP) if you are still in your IVA.

Surely an additional item with a firm who you currently have a mobile contract with would not be classed as taking out extra credit.

I agree with you Jan - it's only upgrading an existing contract.

Hi
You are usually allowed to take credit for utiliies, gas, electric and phone,in an IVA so I see no need to contact your IP.
However I do agree that any other credit must be at the discretion of your IP, as David has stated.

In this instance the additional £5 per month I will be spending is being saved from my mobile allowance that we have for both of us....we have managed to secure free calls in evenings and weekends which gives us the £5 a month we need for this ! It will go out on one direct debit as now! There is no credit being given - they only check your status to ensure you are who you are, that you are on the electoral roll etc - I would not consider any credit now or in the future - my fingers have been burnt far too much in the past !
