(we received a call from a company that said they have our details becasue we recently failed a credit check - but we have not had any credit checks!)

You can get your credit record from Experian online or by post for £2. Just have a look at their website for details -- you do not need to join any of their services.

Your permission has to be given for someone to credit check you. Which company was this? if they've done it without your permission, then they will be in trouble - you can report them!
