I joined our local credit union (not to borrow)and wished i had joined it ages ago. Most credit unions are run by local councils and our council are doing all they can to help people out with financial difficulties.Besides doing junior savings accounts they do regular savings accounts and full accounts. There is also life insurance on for people under the age of 70 which is free and they will double what you have in your account if anything happens. My payment card which i can use to pay in at a post office also enables me to have discounts on council run amenities if i wish.Nobody is refused by the credit union and as long as i have five pounds in my account iam a member for life. The NHS and Police do credit unions as well for thier staff. Anything is worth a look at and i will certainly keep my account when my iva is finished.

They are good if you have one near you, which I don't.

Not all police forces have them either.

Credit unions are great, i'm in 2.
They get you into the saving habit before they let you borrow.

I shall have to stick with my little dish in the very small safe that we have, or let it fester in the Nationwide.

otherwise google your local town and the words "credit union" and you should get a result.

There's one in the county I work, so I'm going to pop along and look into it. Not so much for saving but to see if I can help out at all.

Thanks for the link Johnny

Unfortunately there's not one near me either so it's the Co-op Smartsaver for me!
