Fortunatley debtors prisons were abolished in 1869!! Seems that debt collector is just a little out of date with the law.. It amazes me the lengths some debt collectors will go to.

All the best Spanna :-)

We have had to be strong with what we all have been through x we let our creditors bully us and threaten us and take our last £20 all the time we always went without including the kids it has never been a pretty picture - now at least this way it will end in 5 years time - no more bullying no more saying you can have this to live on you cant have this you cant go out you cant smoke you will spend this to eat per week, i mean its ridiculous really that were having to do all this and yet our ex's are swanning around no debt new life's - for example when he was still with me towards the end of our relationship he was down the pub and i was at home in bits with 3 children handing over the keys to our car on finance and was laughing down the phone at me well believe me it isn't over until the fat lady sings because that debt is joint with him - the joint debts with my bully of an ex husband if the creditors accept that is will all be having a little letter including his address! every dog has their day and i will have mine x sorry but im a little bitter and will no longer be bullied or scared by anything x

Thankyou for all your positive posts means alot x

Good luck to both of you with your Creditors Meetings. I can appreciate how both of you are feeling and remember how terrified I was of having our proposals rejected and burst into tears when the call came through to say they had been accepted. Ours were only accepted on 4th Jan but our lives have been transformed since then to be honest so we wish you all the luck in the world with yours.

Just phoned Mel's team as I sent back my (previously) unsigned proposal sheets on Tuesday and hadn't heard anything since. They've just told me our meeting is on Monday 25th!!! Have been wondering about phoning all day as the pressure was getting to me. So glad I did. Now the pressure of not hearing has been replaced by excitement, fear, worry.... oh dear.

Good luck, we make our first payment on 15th Feb. We had a problem on the first meeting no one turned up. Had to have a second meeting but all ok. I think we pay 10p in the pound pretty low im guessing. We made the decision to do this last october and it really is the best one we made big weight off the shoulders.

That's very reassuring to hear. Our dividend is 9p and I hadn't heard about many low dividends until now. I feel a lot better now. Best of luck on your journey, and thanks to everyone for their good wishes

debt tired - best not to get too hung up over the dividend. It doesn't matter if it's 50p or 10p, creditors will look at affordability. If they can see on paper that what you are offering is the best you can do then they would normally accept.

Our initial was only 17p and I worried myself sick for 3 weeks, all was approved and then a less that a year later they unanimously accepted a lower figure on a full and final offer.

Kazza`s right, the dividend is wholly related to your circumstances and what the creditors can expect. And with the recession deepening I anticipate dividends generally will continue to plunge in some cases. I remember thinking ours was low at 20% over a year ago but many factors continue to drive them down in the current economic and fiscal climate .

The dividend is just a figure that states how much you can afford to pay back your debt and i assume it gets compared with the dividend the creditors would receive if the debtor was to file for bankruptcy x
