Thanks for that, although I cannot tell my dad right now, as he is going through his own personal hell, so I’ll just plod on as best I can, I suppose I will tell him at some stage! He has had some very bad news today so I will keep quiet for now.

What did I miss earlier? A rogue poster???

Maybe it as the “person” who I used to know, being a first class prick again??

Some people have nothing better to do in their lives!

Hi
I,ll just pick up on Soulgrowths valid comment
"However much as I admire Andy's stance though with the offer of financial support I do think that the ethos of this forum should be clearly maintained in that it is here, as I have always perceived it, to offer emotional and psychological support ... and not financial. I am sure that we could all make a case for needing a bit of financial help"

This forum is all about support and advice and as I am responsible for it,s integrity and direction I can assure everyone that we are not here to offer financial help, however we do have a small amount of revenue from the google ads that allow me to offer vouchers. This is usually in the form of the "blog of the month"[congratulations to Aguise for Augusts]and participation in interviews etc. This is only the second time since the forum was launched that we have issued vouchers to help members directly.
I can also assure everybody that whilst I continue to manage this site the advice and support will ALWAYS be unbiased and non judgemental.
regards

Andy

Can I say that you deserve the full support of all forum members for your extremely generous gesture to Jane this afternoon. I think that everyone understands that the forum is not a charity, however there are occasions when it is just appropriate to do the right thing.

Today represented one of those occasional exceptions, and I am sure that small gesture of kindness will help Jane to visit her family as she is so clearly desperate to not add to her father's worries whilst his wife is so poorly.

Can I just say that I feel really bad because I started it, and I really didnt mean to make anyone feel bad or change the focus of the forum, or the ethos. I really only wanted to help.

I just wanted to say that I totally support Andy's gesture of Voucher's , I think it is the right thing to do.
We all get expert advice at the push of a button that in other walks of life would cost money.

I was interested to read Andy's and Melanie's valid responses to my concerns and I was unaware that vouchers had been extended to members in the past. In the time that I have had the honour of being associated with the Forum I think it seems to have grown in its membership and seems to be moving forward in its professional, supportive manner both formally and informally. Having run a number of forums in the past I know just how quickly things can take off with these kind of environments and I think that it is a credit to the Forum that it is attracting so much 'traffic'. I think much of this is due to the placing of Andy at the helm.

Sometimes, as 'Organisations' grow it is necessary to re-establish the aims ... I still feel uncomfortable with the handing out of financial support to Forum members ... where does one draw the line? Can we all have an opprtunity to present our own 'hardship' case? Would this kind of activity attract the wrong kind of member?

I would be interested to know what other Forum members think ... I think this might be an important point to establish for the future of the Forum.

I am not quite sure of the connection between the truly valuable advice and help we receive on the Forum and the handing out of financial support to members.

Hi
I think that you have to put it in perspective.
With Janes £50 voucher we have given out a total of £150 since the forum began.I have myself, with a small greengocery business, donated far more than this over six months to local schools and playgroups.
This forum is all about advice and moral support, not financial. However I may very occasionally give vouchers,in exceptional circumstances,to long serving forum members when the need arises.
I do welcome your comments Debbie because it,s made me think very carefully about the direction of the forum.
regards

last year at xmas, after the appalling way i was treated by my IP, i had paid over £1.5k in up front fees, which i was told would be returnable then found out they were not, i was at a very low time in my life especially at xmas and no presents for the children the forum very kindly donated £100 of gift vouchers, i was truly grateful, it felt like a million pounds to me!

i have now been a member for over a year on this forum and give my spare time as a thank you to the help the forum has given me, i have also been lucky enough to win blogg of the month, which i think is a really good way of encouraging people to write out everything to help each other.

jane is in dire need and i know how she feels, it is hard to tell someone of your situation and even harder when you have kept it quiet for so long, i can fully understand her reasons at this time not to burden her father.

however, the gripe was not about the offerings of the vouchers or aimed at jane in particular from a certain poster earlier today, which i might add i did answer and my response has also been removed, the forum has been a god send to many posters and a life line to others, i think andy's and lily's gesture where appropriate and i myself would willingly donate, you know who the genuine people are on here, and especially those who post all the time, i understand also what soul growths postings are about, i am sure andy working along side with admin could truly see a case where financial assistance was needed was appropriate, i agree we don't want it to look like those joining that it is a forum aimed at hardship cases as we would all fit into that criteria, but sometimes if you have the means to support someone who is in dire need then these one off offerings if available could be made, andy could have contacted her by e-mail and none of us would have been the wiser, i never kept mine secret, but think it shows us what this forum is all about, we have all become a family, and i am sure if anyone else is ever in need desperately the forum will do the same again, as melanie said in her post "I think that everyone understands that the forum is not a charity, however there are occasions when it is just appropriate to do the right thing.

its hard for me to try and explain fully what the gesture meant to me, at xmas, and those who were posters then will know fully my nightmare.

andy i think you do a good job on the forum and its such a shame that one first time poster can throw such a spanner in the works and thanks admin for deleting that awful post, i am really glad jane didn't see it although not aimed at her but know she has had postings off someone who knew her before and she nearly stopped posting because of this.

all the best to all of you
kerri
