I agree Ang ... this is just that generation of children that were given no boundaries, had no respect for teachers whilst at school ... growing up.

There is also a frightening gang culture developing which I believe is due to a lax immigration rules coming back to haunt us.

The youngsters I work with have no respect for anyone and think nothing of attacking police officers. They know there rights but not the responsibility that goes with the rights. They seem to think violence is a game and nothing will happen to them. The youth offending team as do others work with young people as young as 10 who have committed crimes and do not accept they have done anything wrong some of their parents don't seem to put in the discipline and the boundaries the young people need and other parents are at the end of their tether and don't know how to cope any more.
We live in sad society lets hope things get better before they get worse.

Its simple enough to sort out. Anyone found carrying a firearm, mandantory 15year sentence no parole,if the person is under 18 then they are locked away in a youth detention centre and when they turn 18 the remainder of the sentence is transferred to another adult prison.

Next, knives. No reason to ever be carrying a knife, they kill people, mandatory 5 years, doubled if the offence has been committed before, the same as above if under 18.

Harsh yes,but kids nowadays know that if they get caught carrying a blade they get a slapped wrist. They never carry and intend to use,but in the heat of the moment its just too easy to stick it into someone and then regret it afterwards.

Oh and parents should also get large fines or sentences for failing to control their children.

Jeezo,Nazi or what???

Oh yes and I would bring back national service, coz I have seen how effective military discipline can be.

And another thing before I fall off me soapbox, youth detention places should be run by the military, nothing gets your head clear like a good beasting!!!
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

The thing is Ang, don't you think that your daughter wouldn't be one of to them that would get into trouble? My kids know right from wrong and although I don't physically punish them, they do get punished.
I think the thing that is lacking is punishment, and real punishment that makes people regret what they have done....People of all ages commit crimes, whether they be legally or morally and get away with it, day after day...
We as a nation have become far too lenient and accomodating.
It's nice to be back......

The above is a quote from plasticdaft. I cannot agree with this quote as I have four children been brought up exactly the same, 3 of them are super kids, thoughtful , kind etc., not a problem, my first born.....well there is another story and only his mother would love him...fact...I do love him for all his faults and without divulging too much, he has been on an involuntary holiday and believe me I beat myself up terribly when this happened, what kind of a terrible parent was I? Where did I go wrong? what did I do? I had some counselling and found I did nothing wrong and Nature vs Nurture speaks volumes.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Without getting into a political debate, this is a subject that worries me greatly. I have young children, and I have 2 young grown up girls that I fret over.

If there is one thing that annoys me more than anything else, it is hypocrisy. Does anyone remember "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime"?

A little hollow now. My own view is that carrying a knife should carry an automatic jail sentence of 2 years minimum. Second offence 10 years minimum. A gun, life sentence no exceptions.

I well remember getting the strap at school when I stepped out of line, and when my mother found out I got a wooden hairbrush across the backside for shaming her. Needless to say, it never happened again.

I don't pretend to have all the answers, and perhaps I am being a little simplistic but this is so terrible.

I too feel that not all parents are to blame for their children going off the rails......all to often I walk past parents that are absolutely devastated that they have to visit a police station because their child has done a wrong - that said there are the minority that do not give a rats bottom. It is this same minority that ruin most good things in life.....my opinion for what it's worth lol.

This should be re-named soap box corner.......

Quark - very tragic news - I hope you are ok. X

Soap box corner indeed and now that we are on the subject of police stations....

October 2005, I met an old friend of mine at the local workings men club. Took my old Ford Fiesta as only planned to have a couple of shandies. To cut a long story short, best laid plans of mice and men etc, I ended up having a few more beers than expected so left the car on a well lit side street next to the club.

Next morning, I went to pick it up and found that it had been vandalised so badly that it ended up being written off. I walked round to Urmston Police Station, saturday morning don't forget, to find that it was closed!!! Only open 1 in 4 saturdays it turns out. I had to ring a telephone number to be given a crime number, no visit, no hint of an investigation.

I only hope the vandals and criminals only work 1 in 4 as well.

Absolute madness.

The punishment should be made to fit the crime - make the sentances longer and prison harsher. I'm fed up with reading that the likes of Ian Huntley have to be called Mr or Sir, and that he's got his own cell with plasma TV etc.

Regarding carrying knives, some people do need to carry them in the course of their work (Dave is a handyman) and I think these people should be made to register with the police and that anyone found carrying a knife who isn't registered is prosecuted.

Thanks to 11 years of this spineless government this country has gone so far down the pan I don't think it can ever be be repaired. Everyone knows their rights, and no one has the courage to stand up and say enough is enough, and until they do people will keep dying.
