I heard on the news that if the banks lose the overdraft charges war, then they will probably charge us to take cash out of all dispensers!

I've heard that as well.

Are we really surprised?

Not really Jan.

Not that we have much left over to withdraw, but it will be one withdrawal a month then stuff it under the mattress! [:D]

Too true! I've got no option but to use a cashpoint as I have no debit card.

I hate to say this, but from a personal point of view I hope the banks win so I don't have to pay to take my money out![:D]

I agree Jan!

Will they charge you for taking money out in a branch?

I don't think they will because they won't want people going to draw money out in branches, which is why they have all these atm's.

surely if they don't charge in branches, more people will go in to make free withdrawals. I know I certainly will.

One of the reasons I stopped using Nationwide was that they won't let you withdraw less than £30 in branch. That's ok if you've got multiples of £10 to withdraw, but at least with the Post Office I can go and get my last £8 or other odd amount!

I'm sure they will find some way of charging you for taking your money out in branch as well.

In that case I'll be going in once a month and withdrawing everything I need.

It wouldn't be so bad if half of the banks weren't owned by the taxpayer!

You may find that some banks will dangle the 'no fees' carrot if others go down the charges route.

I've just read that the banks may also ration who they give a current account to, so that would rule out most of us on here changing - basically whatever happens the banks will be the winners!

I don't think we'll ever win against the banks, there'll always be a way to apply charges.

Oh well if I have to make one withdrawal per month to avoid recurrent fees, I best book securicor [:D]

Show off!

I used to make one withdrawal a month when I had the Lloyds account and I used to hate walking through town with the majority of my salary in my bag!

Seriously though can you imagine the increased risk......loads of people would make one withdrawal, easy pickings for the scoundrels out there.

I think Jan has the right idea...let the banks win the overdraft fight and we all keep free banking. Until they decide to charge anyway.
