Having just started getting the letters and phone calls from the c/card company's asking me to contact them as they understand i am starting an IVA !! or ringing for late payment even on payments that are not due yet ?? Can they still send Debt collectors ? as the iva will take at least a couple of weeks to get going im sure ?
How long will they usally leave it before they start send them ?

Hi
These are threats that are used to scare you into paying.
No one will call at your house.
Just keep the companies informed of your pending IVA and stay firm but polite

Hi John,

If I had as many pounds as the number of times I was threatened with debt collectors I would be able to pay all my debts!!!!!

As Andy says, they will not call. It's just designed to bully you into making a payment.

hi all can i ask a question?
do you need to tell your iva people that you have had calls and do you need to forward any letters to them? i also heard that the phone calls and letters should stop once the iva is in place?

Hi Mark,

Once you are in an IVA, then all calls and letters should stop. It may take a bit of time for the news to filter through to all your creditors though.

Letters I would forward to your IP, and any phone calls, just tell them politely that you are now in an IVA and it is illegal for them to call you anymore.

The only call I had afterwards, even when I told her I was in an IVA, she still asked for payment!!!! I told her, no can do!

If they ask for proof, just tell them that they will be receiving a copy of the chairmans report and I would put the phone down.

I take it you have just started your IVA?

If you are in an IVA, they shouldn't be trying to scare you. They shouldn't be phoning or writing at all.

Hi John

As everyone else has said, try not to worry about the letters and calls too much this is part of the process ... once you are safely in your IVA they will cease.

All the best

I ahve had a mixture of responses. Some just accepting the situation as they now have the letters saying I am going the IVA route, Mint was extremely helpful and sent a letter detailing "all the things my IP would need to know" ie balance etc. Alliance & Leicester (MBNA) wrote saying "now that I am going the IVA route would I like to ring them and they will try and help" - no I don't think so as they will only suggest I pay something over the phone and I told them last time I couldn't possibly do that as it would be unfair to other creditors. Mercers rang and wanted to be helpful but could I make a payment over the phone even though they knew I was going the IVA route - they also said they would "very kindly" make a note on my file so they "wouldn't have to send a local collector". After feeling really down at times about the whole thing I am now feeling quite strong and not letting the finances get to me - worst things happen!! like my new role at work turning out to be more stressful than the one I have just ditched - will have to look around again now.
