hello
i have just started a iva last november so iam new to all this, i was with blair ndersby but now grant thornton has taken it over in the last 2 weeks i had a letterfrom a firm called jefferson hobbs saying that they can reduce my monthly payments having read some posts on here i dont now what to do ,i have one of there debt counsellers comming round this sat so info about this company would be welcome many thanks
Do not touch this company with a ten foot barge pole! They cannot reduce your payments without you failing your IVA and they just want you to go bankrupt and they'll charge you for doing so.
They have no idea of your circumstances at all, they've just got your name from the insolvency register.
If you are struggling then speak to Grant Thornton in the first place, if not then just continue as you are.
I would advise you to cancel this appointment.

Paul - same as Kallis - Look at Company House and the history of this company - then ask yourself - do you really want this company looking after you ???
They have trawled the insolvency register and have seen you have entered an IVA so too be blunt you have been targeted as someone still vulnerable and possible open to manipulation.
You will get these sort of letters for the next year or so.
As previous posters have said, please cancel the appointment and ignore all further letters you get from these sort of firms.
First port of call if you have any problems is always your IP.
Last Payment - November 2011 - Completion Certificate received 2 weeks after last payment, Removed from Insolvency Register within 4 weeks after last payment.
Oh cancel, cancel, don't let them in the house. Just tell them on door step you've changed your mind, and thanks for coming. Or better still, go out LOL.
Ambulance Chasers they are, they no nothing. Its basically a cold call type thing that hopes youwill fall for the spiel.
I'd invite them round for the afternoon if I were you - and quiz them entirely about how exactly they can get your payments into an IVA reduced. I'd have the tape recorder on, and then send the whole thing off to the OFT for them to listen to. The only thing that he will be trying to do is to persuade you to go bankrupt, and if that seems a more attractive option - your current IP will give you that advice and support free of charge.

First smile of the day reading that one

I had them round with the intention of wasting their time only to find thay talk a lot of sense and did not push me into anything i did not want.
Also its amazing that a site sponsored by iva companies can give impartial advice , take a look at yourselves before you start throwing stones.
THE BIG QUESTION IS ARE IVA`S BEING SIGNED UP AS THE ONLY OPTION BECAUSE GREED MAKES IT THE BEST OPTION.
I'm afraid you won't get much support on here for these sort of companies. They are ambulance chasers.
This forum does give free and impartial advice and an IVA is the best solution for a lot of posters but it isn't for everyone and nobody will be forced into a solution which is not right for them - neither will they be advised to go for something that will not work.

Checking out other forums as well, I've not found anyone who has a good word to say about them - quite the contrary in fact.

We dom't stop people posting what they really want to say as is evidenced by your post - we merely post our opinion of these sort of companies and the vast majority on here wouldn't touch them with a ten foot barge pole, especially after having read reviews of them elsewhere.
The forum will not deny that some people are given bad advice and that there are some companies that leave a lot to be desired. The forum gives free and impartial advice about all debt solutions and will always tell people to make their own decisions.
If contacting this company has worked for you then fine, I wish you well.
I don't think there will be many others who agree with you.

I had Jefferson Hobbs out to discuss my IVA, saved me thousands, we should admire how genuine this company is instead of slagging them off. Most of the rubbish being posted about them is coming directly from the GREEDY IP's who do not want us to talk to any one else, look at your terms and conditions, the IP's will bleed you dry if you allow them to. THANK GOD I SAW THE LIGHT. Thankyou, Jefferson Hobbs, keep up the great work you are doing.
Companies like this are parasites, preying on vulnerable people. They trawl the insolvency register and contact people despite knowing nothing about their circumstance.
If anyone is having problems with their IVA their first port of call should be their IP, and if it turns out that BR is the best option then there is certainly no need to pay companies like this.
Quite agree. You will find that most of the comments on here about these sort of compa nies are from normal posters who extremely happy with the solutions they have and your ip should always be your first port of call if you are struggling.
