It won't be anything to do with that - most of these calls are dialled at random. We're just annoyed with the ambulance chasers who chase the vulnerable by getting their details from the register and the people who obviously work for these firms who post on here and try to justify what they do.

Our iva firm discussed all the options we had, in depth, before we agreed the iva was the way forward.
If this applied to all iva companies then the question of *what if* wouldnt arise when we are contacted by bankruptcy assist firms.
full and final accepted January 2015

iva agreed; August 2010
iva would have completed; August 2017
extra year thank's to NRAM

All iva companies should discuss all options with potential clients and I think the vast majority do. Mine certainly did. Even with this, the br assist companies can be very persuasive and i f they catch people at a low ebb they can sew the seeds of doubt. A lot of people won't know of forums such as this where they can get help.

I can see both sides to this but paying a BR company is wasted money. I started the ball rolling 13 months ago in a call to payplan. Why? Because they were on my creditors letters & more importantly had a good easy to read website. Didn't use google because that can be dangerous & misleading for many things including my work as a nurse. Any way payplan explained over the phone my options & at first suggested BR. I looked at all my figures & IVA was possible they agreed & here I am having my first annual review today. An IVA is not for everyone but how can people not read their paperwork? Worst case from this is prison from fraud so no matter where you are mentally always check the paperwork! I added up what I was expected to pay for 6 years & the p/£ & there is nearly £5k difference - fees but given 60% of debt was on credit cards then £5k over six years is low.

If you feel responsible for your situation is it not human nature to repay as much as possible? An IVA provides protection where as going alone does not, even though all your money goes to the debt.

If an individual has advice from at least 2 companies then I'm sure they will find the best option!
The road is 72months long starting September 2010.

When I first contacted PayPlan and they went through my situation, they asked if I had considered bankruptcy, not recommending that or an IVA, just something for me to consider. I didn’t want to lose our house, (it has equity in it), so decided on the IVA. It’s crucial that you set aside time to go through the paperwork and ask any questions, however daft you may think they may be. I was not pressurised in any way and I don’t have a problem with the fees at all.

I dont think anyone here is against Bankruptcy or IVA for that matter - as situations in life change, sometimes very dramatically.
So we all have to take an option that right for ourselves.

The biggest gripe about this company is the way it gets its information and then acts on it, as a way of making money !!!!!.
It contacts people out the blue - with infomation it gleams from the Register.
As mentioned before, my own personal opinion of any company that does this, its unprofessional in every sense and has the morals of a "slug" and best avoided at all costs.

Here, here - they don't even have the morals to clear their list against the Mailing Preference Service for direct marketing purposes.

I opted into MPS, and TPS for that matter, to stop junk mail from firms like Jeffereson Hobbs and other ambulance chasers.

It don't stop after the IVA is complete either, I recently had a letter congratulating me on completing my IVA and telling me how I need to clear my credit file and claim back PPI. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO DO THIS MYSELF AND HAVE DONE.

That's totally wrong!! I hate cold calling, be it by letter or phone.

I don't like the fact that people are obviously monitoring the register, either at the beginning or at the end (doesn't tend to be in the middle for some reason) and noting peoples details down so they can pounce.

I just re-read that and to clarify I would not claim back PPI on a matter of principle, creditors have been stung already with having to write off some of my old debts and does not sit right. However my CRA files are the best they can be at this moment in time given my prior circumstances.
