plasticdaft has a point,

Although I agree with the generalised sentiment in earlier postings that humans make mistakes, in my case, this is the second serious error on their part on both of my annual reviews. The problem I have with DFD is how they deal with their 'mistakes'. So far they have been indifferent and confrontational and on both occasions it has taken postings on this forum to get someone to respond in the correct manner. Both times I have posted here have been because I have reached a dead-end with Debt Free Direct. I do not think that 'human error' can be used as a defence to that.

Thank goodness for the presence of this forum then - as this time, your complaint does appear to be being dealt with in a professional and contrite manner.

When sending my husbands care plan to his case worker I ended up sending 2 referrals for young offenders in my haste and stress. Very confidential documets and not something I am proud off and fortunatly it went to another Social Services dept. Just pointing out that these things do happen, not good but human error happens.

I agree Jan, human error does happen. I'm lucky that I don't handle personal information in my job, but even then errors can have major consequences.

I managed to send a backlog of orders to one of my customers at work and it showed the entire backlog for every customer in Europe! It could have caused all sorts of problems for the company as it meant that they knew the pricing that was given to all the other customers.

I also managed to place an order for 250,000 parts for one of my customers rather than 250 and didn't realise until the order arrived!

Fortunately the most important things at work are always correct when they go out, having been checked four times.

Skip - what are you like?

I look forward to that too Mel!

I'm trying to think if I've done anything, I'm sure I have but can't think of anything right now.

I typed up a phone list once at a previous job and one colleague's name was Dick C---- I made a typo....Sick C----- it read and didn't notice until it had already been displayed on the factory floor x

My worst ever typo was when I worked at the court. The warrant officers used to stand over us when we typed up the warrants (on a manual typewriter with carbon paper between the sheets!) and I always used to be really nervous.

One day the warrant officer was being particularly impatient and snatched the warrant from me before I had the chance to check it through properly. He wasn't impressed when the clerk picked up that rather than putting 'drove a car on a road with no insurance' I had put 'drove a cat on a toad with no insurance'!

Can I return to my original question in case Declan of Debt Free Direct has to tow the Company line. The question was: what course of action is open to me regarding the very serious issue if my complete financial situation being brought into the public domain through their error? Does the data protection act not help me here? I already have in my possession all the financial records if another person in my street. They in turn probably have mine (assuming the miss stuffing of reports was confined to two people) this has a significant impact on me amongst the people around my area. They may have informed their friends. My landlord may get to know I am in an IVA. This information could completely change how people view me in my community. I am supposed to be protected from this!

I am sure that DFD have a complaints procedure which you should go through first. Perhaps Declan can help out with this tomorrow.

In your eyes bobrini, what are you actually looking for here? A mistake has happened, this has been accepted and you have been apologised to. There is nothing that can change this situation now - and if you are looking for monetary compensation that would just fall as a windfall in your IVA. I am sure that there will be a complete tightening of procedures now within DFD - rightly so - but I am not sure where this can go to be honest.

Declan will be able to respond to you directly and more fully tomorrow.
