I do hope that jupton will post to explain the full picture re their claim that DFD are a "waste of time"???? What is the basis for this claim please??

I have looked at DFDs website today and it seems to me to be excellent in giving first-rate advice on Debt Solutions.

Ok some background information.

DFD approached me by phone just after christmas in response to a form i completed on the net and asked if i needed help - which i did & still do. We went through some figures there and then and then they posted some paperwork out to us. After some weeks my wife & i managed to pull all the information together they requested and sent it off. During this time they wrote to us several times and phoned to make sure we still wanted their help. I always phoned them back to say we did. We finally sent all out paper work off just over 2 months ago. A practioner came back with a proposal that sounded good but the next day due to an error in their calculations they said that we would have to sell our home to release some capital. We could not possibly do this as it would upset our 3 children too much and we would never be able to own our own home again (we are both 43 this year). So we came up with some suggestions for raising some money - borrow from family, stop pension payments, part time job. The practioner said he would take this information away and get back to me the same day or at the lastest the next day. 2 weeks later we still had not heard back so i phoned to find out that he had been moved to another dept. The young man i spoke to managed to find our file (i had to wait about 10 minutes while he found it and read through it)read some of the facts out - just as well as some were incorrect. After putting him right he promised to ring me back the next day - that was about 2 weeks ago. If they cannot or do not want to help i would at least expect a letter to say so and not leave us in limbo.

I understand that DFD DO help a great many people and that we may have just been unlucky.

.......how was the grammer?

Hi jupton

I would suggest asking for all your paperwork back and approach another company.

You can find reviews on www.iva.com.

May i also suggest you contact Melanie Giles who posts on this forum. She is a long serving and very experienced insolvency practitioner and if anybody can help, shes the one.

Good luck

Yes, you do appear to have been left hanging in the air, which is unacceptable. If you don't fit the criteria, or they don't think that they can enable your objectives to meet those of the creditors, which is the compromise bit, they should tell you and either suggest an alternative strategy or just say they can't help. We're back to communication aren't we?

I agree you should get a couple of other opinions, as suggested by Mrs S and Andy

HI Ian,

I have just been reading some of your posts and the fact that you know people at DFD. I have been with them for quite some time, and yes, they statyed out very good. However, when I had surgery and payment issues (you may see many of my previous posts!) my IP and his colleagues were terrible at repyling to me.

It took my IP over 4 months to get back to me and now that I am offering a full and final, it has been over 7 weeks since I have heard from him. The last email he sent, stated that he would put a proposal for creditors together and send it to me in 4 weeks for me to approve. I still have not recieved anything in over 7 weeks. I emailed their customer care department to see what was going on and they asked me for documentation that I sent months ago! I had to send a four page letter to the complaints department with dates, times, who I spoke to and things that DFD were going to sort out for me and then, I did receive a response.

I know they are busy people, but to lose all of my recorded delivery post and communication was very poor.

I have now proposed an offer and when the funds could be available in the hope that they can act quicker than 7 months!
Do you think an offer of £20,000 (original dividend 33% - now 31-32%) would be proposed??

I have stated the current decline in house sales and how my house is dropping in price (marketed for 9 months) and that they could have funds in 6- 8 weeks. My mother is buying a large portion of my house to raise funds.

Hopefully this all makes sense.

Thank you.

HI Ian,

That's very kind of you, thank you!

I am now trying to contact my mortgage company for a revised settlement figure, but as I ma on interest only, I don't see how it could change that much. The figure was the same in November 2007 as it was in July 2007. Would it have changed do you know? As for my house price, my agent has emailed me a revised figure. Would it not be enought o email DFD with my figures from the estate agent and mortgage company?

Thanks again.

Hi Flozza

Can you e-mail me with your real name, e-mail address and the phone number as I've had a response.

You can get my address from the "Find an IP" section of the DTI website.

Hi Ian,

Thanks again, yes I will contact you.

I have finally had a reply from my IP now asking for a remortgage ffrom my mother, agents new sale price and selling fees. I have sent all of this so many times! I currently have an email from my agent recommending a lower sale price - is this enough? Also, the fees for the sale have not changed. The comparison for a re-mortgage offer may be £771 less than a sale on my house.

Is it reasonable for my IP to ask for my mother's mortgage offer in writing? Would a letter from her mortgage broker not be enough?

My IP said he will not be able to put a proposal together until he sees this information. I am confused as 8 weeks ago he said he was putting one together. I cannot believe this has taken 8 months o requests for the same documents etc...

Advice very welcome...

Thank you..
