Yes, Nick, I know -- just got my wires crossed for a while, to be honest, caused by sheer frustration at this shambolic mess.

The site names you until the IVA is closed, and then the process starts to remove your name from the site and from credit reference agencies.

What I wrote about the permanency is:
"Furthermore, contrary to what you may think, an IVA does follow you for life because if you get asked at any time whether you've been in an IVA, you have to say yes."

Hence, legally, it follows you for life.

But how many forms actually ask this, I have seen forms which ask about BR but not IVA...

Is it the IVA which follows you for life, or the fact that you had built up unaffordable debt which you were unable to repay - and the IVA actually allowed some of that to be written off. I guess it is a matter of perception at the end of the day.

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree MelanieGiles. Have you been through an IVA yourself by any chance?

When I was explained my options of IVA vs Bankruptcy I was told that bankruptcy follows you for life and is a cheap way out. IVA is there to help you repay debt and won't follow you for life because you're paying back as much as you possibly can. I chose to do the best I can as it was the right thing to do.

I've more than paid my dues since 2006 and still have the monkey on my back.

I have a girl friend who was in the same position as I back then and she took Bankruptcy. She paid off her absolute minimum and has since bought a house.

As nickjohn says, more forms ask if you have ever been been BR so therefore I feel that BR follows you more than an IVA.

Also, there are examples on this forum of people who have been in an IVA and then bought a house and moved on with their lives.

Hi xxxx72
I feel that the iva was the best solution for me and the only other alternative was br which I didnt want. I think the comment about perception is very true.
To me the iva was about repaying as much as possible back to my creditors. Yes I ended up in the situation but it was never my intention not to repay the debt. Infact if at the start id been offered the chance to repay 100p plus fees id have probably said yes to a longer term.

There are however people who will always go back to the fact that the debt was built up in the firsr place. We cannot ever change that and im sure theres plenty of people whose main thought on the situation will always be that Amd not that things happen in life and that my go for an iva we are trying to do as much as we can to resolve the situation. We will never be able to change that and theres no point dwelling on it because ot may drag you down. My advice is to focus on that you have taken the hard way to do the right thing and for those people who are not able to get past that do you really want them as part of your life?

I know that theres people I would never be able to admit ive had the iva to but theres ways round things and you either declare it if required so you are not anawering sishoneatly or take a route that doesnt require you to answer the question.

My debt saved my mother's life so I can't see it as bad debt unfortunately. You're entitled to your perception but please don't judge.
If I had to do it again I would. If I was given the choice of bankruptcy or IVA again, I'd choose bankruptcy.

Hi xxxx72
I would never judge anyone. I was trying to say that there are some people who may judge us that have ended up in an iva no matter what and that my view is that we will never change this perception so we dont need these people in our lives.. Apologies if this didnt come across.

The iva is the long and hard route and I took it probably like everyone else because I wanted to repay as much as I could.

As I said I was agreeing that people do have perceptions and they would never understand the iva.not that I didnt. I try and focus going forward on not having to say ive had one. That works for me rather than having to fill anything in that said ive had an iva. Hope you can see what I was try to say.
As I said if never judge anyone who goes through this its not easy.amd how we got here well thats our own stories.

Hi Clairemichelle
Thanks for clearing that up. My thoughts are the same... unless you've been through an IVA, you wouldn't know what it is like, especially if it has gone wrong for you like mine has. After 5 long years of busting my guts to do the right thing, you'd expect the IVA vendor to give you that respect back by making sure the closure goes well.

Anyway, DFD is playing ball pretty well now. I am in regular contact and the variation documents have gone through. Its EIF which is the bain of my frustration. Even after promising high and low that they'll help me out because they know they messed up, they still haven't responded to emails for 2.5 weeks or kept me updated.

DFD = good
EIF = bad
If within your IVA you get passed on to EIF, don't use them! You have a choice to do it yourself.

Hi
I too am with dfd and yes I know althroughoutt eif. I have been in contact with them for exactly two yeara now re ppi and got stress related eczema as a result of 4 sets of forms. 4 sets of authorities and being forced to claim even though I didnt feel id been missold. It took till I was so stressed and begging for help via the forum that some divine intervention happened. Cattyalice had been posting before and I had seen her case be taken forward and judith did the same for me. Ive had the variation approved that will allow my iva to be closed and been told it shouldnt be too long. situation is slightly different as ppi as been ongoing and stress me out whilst the iva ongoing. I suppose im very lucky really as it seems now that my closure may not take long, but would have preferred not to have had the stress. On a positive note after goto the docs my ezchema seems to be get better.

I also agree dfd have been quite good throughout and have left me too it because ive made every pyt on time. The only little hiccups have been not receiving post. Good luck with the variation.
