Yes Debbie, but just now am feeling physically ill, so think I will rest now... back to work tomorrow... I really having hard time getting around the complete combination of current disasters... Tomorrow rises a new day in hope of passing back the past and pushing through the future.

Just is not that easy in reality is it?

Thanks again for all your kind words here, I really don't know how all this is gonna affect my VA especially with work contract closing shortly, so have to take one day as a new challenge to succeed... 6 years is a long IVA, but 2-thirds through it now... hey-ho!

Gordon

Hi Gordon

What a nightmare this must be for you, I really do feel for you right now, the bank should have spotted it much sooner. My card was cloned, I knew nothing about it. There was a transaction for £254 from tesco's online and the bank phoned me at 7.30 to ask me if it was me, I said no way. Anyway they said its OK there are a few things that we have declined but as I did do tesco's online at the time they wanted to check. It wasnt mine and a call to tescos revealed it was for a washing machine to an address somewhere down south. The bank stopped the card and re-issued it. They should have picked up any out of the ordinary transactions.

Sorry its all going the way of the pear right now, things will get better I am sure.

As the amounts were between £3 and £50, it seemed as if maybe I was out shopping today... It all happened today and if I was not checking a payment for direct debit, I would not have noticed the difference for another 3 weeks. Although they used smallish amounts, there were 7 of them... all today! The bank said that is how they usually get away with it, by not getting too greedy in one transaction.

I have a hunch that maybe I know what has happened... I was out the other day, and the person had a problem with one of the card machines and had to call for another from a colleague... maybe it was skimmed then and started using it today??? I could not be certain of course, but I do not use the card that much, so always with me... There could of course be an internet failure somewhere and I have been phished???

Thanks Terry and again one and all, this does mean a great deal that you are all out there, and no, I am not gonna come visiting you all with cap in hand, don't worry!!!! Then again..... no, that's silly...

I am now in my twisted brain mode, so really think I should shut down for the day now. It's gonna get harder now before it can get better... I will just have to pull a few teeth or hairs out (what's left), and make an efigy of something I can send the curse back on with wherever it came from.

With the bank gordon you will need to know where you were when the amounts were taken, make sure they check any cctv that was around also this can speed things up with sorting it out. My mum lost £500 and eventually got it back.

The card was used yesterday (I used it) in the same place I now have an idea the other day may have been compromised with the hand-card machines... It is only today that the transactions were alive.

Gordon, you haven't explained how the money was taken, did they use a card to take out money or was it by ordering goods. This is very important as the type of fraud makes the difference. If your card was cloned then you cannot be held liable for the transactions, cash withdrawals and pin usage are more difficult to prove. Let me know and I can help you I worked in a fraud area a few years ago and know the industry.

I have not been told exactly how the card was used yet... All I know is when I called the bank as figures were way out when looking online account... they told me that the reason it was so low was as I had used the card today, and they listed the amounts... they were unable to tell me the use or location at this time... they said "fraud" would investigate.

ok well it doesn't sound like cash which is good, the first thing you need to do is ask for a list of the transactions, you need to know how the transactions were processed - you need this in detail were they chip and pin, mail order or swiped. They should send you a list through of the items and you should ask for this to be sent so you can sign to say it was not you. If the card was cloned it is very unlikely they will have the pin so the items will be swiped, if they just had the card no expiry date etc then it will be mail order and either way by signing to say it was not you they cannot hold you liable and if they do the max is £50. Give them a call asap and get all of this information from there so you know where you stand, they should actually be able to tell you this anyway, I cant believe they havent even told you what they suspect, it should be easy for them to detect the type of fraud.

Yes, the bank said I would get a list in the post to check and return... As I say, this is only today, so need to give them a chance... As far as pin is concerned, I have always been jubious about this hand held pin entering device, as it still seems rather open planned and people do not have to strain too hard to see... If it is as I have had one idea, then it would not have been too much of a problem if the first device was a fraud device, that I entered into, then the second device the real one... Then today, they decide to go shopping... Again, I am totally in the dark right now except for the list of transaction values.

well if you think they have your pin because the device was a fraudulent one then you will certainly not be the only person, the banks tend to share this info and also notify the police, again if this is the case then you cannot be held liable, only if they can prove that you gave out the pin (or put the pin somewhere that someone could see it). I wouldn't worry, it is more difficult on a debit card but they should really be looking at giving you the money back and of course access to it!
