I agree with Hyperdrive that problems such as VAT and PPI should not be a problem for people starting out their IVA journey.

HOWEVER, you need to look at how companies have treated people and dealt with the current problems. This will give you flavour for how they may treat you in future if and when there is the next big issue.

A lot of the big IVA companies have treated those reaching the end of their IVA with a total lack of compassion and respect.

I am not with DFD so can only form an opinion on what I have read, but DFD, GT and my own IP appear to have caused their customers a great deal of heartache with closures.
7 years after starting an IVA I finally received a completion certificate from ClearDebt

Yes it is - your post read as though it was just for you rather than all Payplan clients.

i know that dfd have also been holding mass variation meetings to allow closure over recent months.

again in fairness to DFD ( think im getting soft, but hopefully being objective !! ), when my creditor that hadnt claimed reached the deadline of 24th October and still hadnt claimed, DFD issued my completion certificate by email 7 days later on 1st November; i made my last paymnet on 13th April this year

for forum members just starting out or indeed with 2,3, or 4 years left to run, then surely PPI & VAT will be a thing of the past. Although none of us know what the next unexpected hurdle will be, as say eg 3 years ago, the current VAT & PPI issues hadnt materialised
Last payment made April 2012
Certificate received 1st Nov 2012

I too am with DFD and up until July of this year hadn't had any problems with them as 12 months to go has said previously, quick turn rounds for annual reviews etc, to be honest if i was starting out i wouldn't go with such a big company, Brickie you would do no harm looking at either Mel's, Michael's people, Sam's to mention but a few IVA companies, there i'm sure you get the personal and humanistic touch.

Have to agree with 12 months on the PPI/VAT subject this will certainly be well and truely over by the time you complete and i'm sure there will be firm guidelines in place regarding these matters by then so hopefully no problems surrounding those issues at the end.

Good luck in whomever you choose to go with, it will be the start of a new life for you, sometimes easy and sometimes not so easy but a great feeling at the end when you have made that final payment.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
