We were progressing with an IVA, all of our direct debits came out of a joint account with the Halifax, however it came to light that from the 1st September the Halifax did not honour our direct debits! even though there was enough money to honour them.I only had a £200 overdraft. Consquently I cancelled all direct debits and changed them, but I was not informed by Halifax that they were cancelling them. Has anyone else had a problem like this or is this a normal procedure the banks adopt. I look forward to hearing from any experiences others may have

Can't say I've come across this. Are they one of your creditors or is this a bank account that you have changed to.

One of the technical experts will probably be able to give you advice on that.

Hi jan, Thanks for getting back to me. I owed them £200 overdraft and hubby had a credit card for about£1,000. As a result of them not honouring dd I had a late payment charge from Virgin! This was my exsisting bank account where all dd and standing orders came from, so Ive cancelled them all and redirected my dd to come out of a cardcash account which my salary gets paid into with the halifax. I just need to contact child benefit and child tax benefit to change my details of my bank account and then I will close it.

Chegs, you won't be able to close the account if you have lending with the same bank, but don't worry it will all be included in the IVA. X

If Halifax are one of your creditors, you need to change your bank account to a bank which isn't, and get everything swapped over to them.

Prior to an IVA being set up, they can take cash from your account to offset against your borrowings if they want to. Halifax did it with my savings account (£34 to offset against £25,000!). They may not do, but it is a possibility.

You'll find that once an IVA has been set up, the Halifax will probably close the account anyway.
