Hubby has applied for the mobility component of DLA and we are currently awaiting the outcome.

If he was to successfully get the higher rate, would we have to pay it over to the IVA, or would we be able to use it to get a car.

I would of thought it should be used for the car, but I don't really know. Melanie will tell you I'm sure. X

You don't actually have to use the allowance to finance a car, you can use it for taxi's or other forms of transport, but we would want the car so hubby can get out during the day when I'm at work.

Aw that will be nice Kallis. Let's hope it works out that he can keep it and pay for a car with it. It will be a new car too. Fingers crossed. Kazzy x

It will really depend upon your IP Kallis. If I were acting for you I would think it is perfectly reasonable for your hubby to use that money to make his life more comfortable, but of course I cannot speak for your own IP - so perhaps an enquiry is in order.

Thanks Mel.

Don't know if he'll get it, so we'll hang fire until we know, then give him a ring if he's successful.

From what i read, the council tax discount is available only if your home has been adapted.

We're waiting to hear if he's got it before applying for a blue badge. He used to have one, but when it came up for renewal they refused it so we didn't bother.

It's only because his health has deteriorated recently that we have applied for the allowance.

I did think we'd got a reply this morning, but it was yet another letter apologising for not having made a decision yet!

Our house is not adapted in any way so doubt if we would get any discount on the council tax.

Just to update everyone that he has now been awarded the higher rate mobility allowance.

Really pleased as we didn't think we'd get it. It's not the first time we have applied and we were turned down last time.

Anyway, we are going car hunting tomorrow. Never thought we would be able to go for a new car in our IVA, but of course it will cost us nothing other than petrol and it means hubby is not reliant on me being able to get time off, or him dropping me at work so he can use the car.

We did ask Payplan, and they said we were ok to use the money for the car.

Waiting for the application form for the blue badge now.

congrats re blue badge..hopefully will make a difference to life...i care for two young people who have their badges when i have them and it makes a difference to any journey.
only one of these children has an adapted home but i think was getting c. tax reduction before that...and the other has c tax reduction i am sure..i think there are some memebrs who work for council tax office who may have some insight for this.

good news tho....

plus Radar keys for the Radar loos...another lifesaver when out and about
