I am applying fro jobs in the banking industry. However we are in a positon where we may need to take out an IVA.
My question is: Do banks ask if you have had an IVA when you apply, or if I get the job prior to we go down this route do I have to declare the IVA at that point

Hey jason, welcome to the forum. From reading on here I think they will find out and it's best to be honest. You could phone the HR department anonymously and ask about their policy. I don't know whether you have to put it on the application so please hang on for someone who might know for definite. Good luck. X

If you are not in an IVA currently, and have not applied for one as yet, then if the question is asked you can honestly say no, but if you are in a position whereby it is a real possibility then it seems counter productive not to mention it if you are applying for a job that you could potentially lose for entering into an IVA.

Banks are generally very anti IVA when it involves their own employees.

My parnter applied for a position within a bank a couple of years ago, and the condtion was that you held a bank account with that particular bank, which i think all banks may be the same. When she had an initial telephone interview they credit checked her there and then. The chances are they would find out eventually even if your not in an IVA at the moment.
Steve.

IVA approved!

Most banks will ask you for an annual declaration that you are not in financial difficulty. It would be difficult to avoid answering that question if you had then taken out an IVA - so it is probably better to ask what their policy is up front to avoid disappointment.
