Hi Scott, is the £300 for any particular reason? Is it a gift? x

If it is a gift then it shouldn't be a problem. If you have the £500 limit for a windfall then you should be ok as well.

Depends on the reason, if its inheritence? or is it to help replace a electrical item?? if in doubt ask your IP, they always know best.

It's really too small to worry about (I'd have thought).

I always err on the side of caution and run everything by my IP, I can I'm sure be a little annoying but frightened of failure which I know won't happen but I'm a born worrier me.

Personally, I don't think there will be a problem. My parents gave me money towards a new laptop at the end of last year and I didn't declare it at all.

Just a quick question, what if you are given a gift cash and there is no way of any creditor finding out about it? Surely you dont have to declare it because they will never know if it isnt documented in bank statements??

It may not be documented vignal but it's always best to be honest as these things have a tendency to come back and bite you when you're least expecting it.

Birthday presents aren't a problem Vignal, I'm asking for money this year for Hubby's birthday (Nov), for both of us for Christmas and my birthday in Jan (50th) as I would dearly love to go away. x

We always have cash from my parents for Christmas and Birthdays, especially as both of ours are close to Christmas.
