Hello, can anyone give me some advice? I completed my IVA in October 2011 and I would like to apply for a current account. I have already been turned down by Barclays, Natwest and Santander and I am afraid to apply for any more as I know this will damage my credit rating even further. Does anyone know of any banks who will accept people post IVA? I don't want an overdraft facility, just a debit card.

I think you need to check your CR and make sure that is clear of all defaults and the IVA in the public record section. and check all three agencies

if lets say you ran your IVA for 5 years then got your CC promptly. One year later ie past the six year mark (that's statute when it all falls off your CR) sometimes it needs a little prompt

I can only assume that you've not checked all your CR they will do odd things for example they put my IVA from the public record to the notice of correction

Once my CR's were clear of any trace of the IVA it overnight gave me a top lending scoreon all three agencies

Have you checked your CR very odd?

ohh I had a Nationwide cash plus account during my IVA. You get debit card, usual banking facilities and on-line access and a monthly statement and doesn't cost a bean.

I have finished my IVA 18 months ago but I kind of like my cash plus account and see no reason to change it.

I've got a Cash Plus account as well and I agree with sponge that it's a pretty good account. I've also got a full Flex Account with them and, apart from not having a cheque book, there is hardly any difference between the accounts.

Until the IVA is removed from your credit report along with defaults it will be difficult to get a full current account. Even then if some of he banks you are applying to we're previous creditors then they may well reject your application as thy retain their own internal records for years.
