I would be very surprised if it effected obtaining something like a short-stay or tourist visa, as you would just have to prove you have the means to support yourself while in their country.

However, for more in-depth/permanent visas, then I have no idea if they require a credit check or not? Again, it may be a case to just prove you are a good 'case' now financially, rather than worrying about what happened in the past.

Hopefully one of the experts will know more about this.
