Never put our dogs in kennels - on the rare ocasional we go away - we use Housesitters - the person looks after the dogs and cat in the house for the whole time. The house is protected and the animals are happy and well cared for in their own enviroment. The company tends to be a bit expensive but worth it for piece of mind.

I put my late German Shepherd in a kennel once, it was horrible and he came back with a lump on his head! I don't like using them. Sounds like there'll be a fight for them Melanie!

Some of our dogs were fine in kennels but we will still remember our Great Dane who we put into kennels and who had a terminal disease that we knew nothing about at the time.

The kennels we used after that for the lurcher were excellent. All three of ours are rescue dogs and we wouldn't put them in kennels now.

In fairness, mine are OK with kennels. We have a good one just outside Newport in the country, and they have paddocks to the side where the dogs can run free and exercise. They charge extra for woodlands walks and heating in the kennels, but mine do actually love their walkies. And at the end of the stay they get a good bath and a grooming.

When I retire as an IP, I intend to run a dogs kennels for a living - probably wont be much of one, but hubby and I are passionate about our animals and would love to run a small business along these lines.

I'd love to say I'll give you one each! But mine pine if the other has been taken for a bath without the other one, so splitting them up is not an option!

Hi again Melanie, our plan is to open a kennels and really treat the dogs right when their owners are away, a bit extended plans now as my retirement has added another 7 year, but nearly there, we are both passionate about our dogs 2 big greedy bulldogs who sleep on the bed not good I know but we treat them as equals. been in the kennels once not very good, since then this year,, they have stayed with a friend, what a rude awakening they had but very grateful, sorry its a bit off the forum mark, and a bit of a let off relax for me at the mo.
ITS OVER WE ARE FINALLY DEBT FREE, CERTIFICATE ARRIVED

Vinnie - we have a very large lurcher, a medium Heinz 57 and a Jack Russell, all of whom sleep on (and in) our bed. Son in law has a guide dog (he is partially sighted) and she lives here with us but sleeps with him and our daughter!!

Are you on FB Vinnie?

All three of ours sleep on (and in) the bed. Would not have them sleep anywhere else.

They are not equal to us and do know when they are put in their place.

The guide dog sleeps with daughter and son in law, the others with us and we would not have it any other way.

Each to his own as far as pets are concerened I suppose!!

Ours are waiting for me upstairs as we speak!!
