Thanks I do feel slightly easier this morning as I sit here before work. Daughter is at school, son goes to bed around 1pm-2pm (nights) he knows nothing of my situation and don't want him to but doubt they would discuss it with him anyway?? I'm sure it won't be long now before my meeting date and then I'll have something positive to tell them when they ring. All other creditors have been fine and polite, no hassle whatsover apart from Barclayscard (Mercers). Although to be fair even they have been fine until yesterday. I panic easily.

I had threats like this - and yes no one showed up.

But I was given this advice -

Do not let them in, even a foot in the doorway, if they get a peacfull entrey without breaking in they are entitled to to take things.

How ever even if they do get in, chances they will not take anything, they will write down what you have a got this is worth taking and come back at a later date.

What i was amazed by if they get entry without force on the first visit, ie you let them in or they find a open door/window on the second visit they are allowed to use force ie break in.

So chances are they will not come, but if they do just do not let them in under any circumstances

no matter how bad money gets, theirs stll alot more important things in life - 48 payments to go

Sorry to disagree but they can only do this with a court order - they cannot enter your house and take things without one - peaceful entry or not!

I got a postcard from MBNA saying they are turning up week commencing 25 January. That's the 3rd such postcard I have had. They never turned up on the first two occasions, and if they do turn up this time, there is nothing they can do anyway!!! (in an IVA now)

Do not worry about it.

I had a similar situation with the company that chase for Barclays, I had a 48 Hour notice of collection through the post 2 years ago and no-one has turned up.

The only people that did come was for my vehicle finance but they were very polite and understanding.

There is light just hang in there.

Thank you again to all it's reassuring to have this site to ask questions and sometimes just gain reassurance from. I'm hanging in and I'm sure it will be over soon. Fingers crossed for me x

Hi isthereanend

I am glad you are feeling a bit better today.[:)]

It is normal to panic/worry about everything as it is such a stressful time, when I got the same call from Barclaycard I phoned my ip and they settled my nerves as it was scary.

I hope you get a meeting date soon[:)]

Hi isthereanend,
Had a letter from Mercers (Barclaycard)today myself.
Phoned them about my upcoming creditors meeting on Feb 14th..they said that until my iva was accepted, they will treat the debt owed as normal and I will receive a visit from a debt collector soon.
Have been feeling spooked too!
Glad I've read this, as I feel a little bit reassured.
You are not alone!! :)

I've had a letter from Mercers today warning me that doorstep collection is imminent and to phone this number to prevent it. I haven't rang as my creditors meeting is on the 8.2.08 and I know all they'll want is for me to make a payment to prevent doorstep collection happening. I've filed it with the other letters due to go to my IP. hang in thre Kitty we'll soon have those IVA's up and running (fingers crossed) and Mercers will hopefully stop threatening. x

Pass the letter straight to your IP, he will deal with them immediately and then you wont have to worry about anyone turning up

I had my visit but spoke to the chap on the doorstep. I said I had no intention of paying him a penny as I had absolutely no disposible income awaiting an interest only remortgage and he said that's fine but he wanted to come in to discuss my I&E. I said I would be happy to come along to a pre arranged place to discuss my I&E but that he would not be entering my home. I kept a pleasant smile on my face but had to repeat myself twice to say that no matter what he would not be entering my home and repeated my offer to meet anywhere else of his choosing. He declined my offer and I never saw or heard from him again!! My creditors meeting was 2 weeks later and Barclays voted yes to 25/£
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

Won't help with doorsteps but it can help with the harrassing phone calls.......

If you don't have an answering machine, get one. You can then screen your calls and you might surprised at how few debt collectors are prepared to leave nasty messages on tape!

I haven't heard from then since and it's just over a week now, my meeting is the 8th Feb so I'm truly hoping that they can hold off until then, when I last spoke to them I didn't have the meeting date so if they ring again I do have something different to tell them. Not long now and hopefully I'll be on the road to debt recovery! x
