Hi sharon I dont think they know anything other than what is on the insolvency register. If you look you will see it is the same info, name court, and compny you are with. That is what is so wrong these letters give the impression that they know and they dont they just plant the seed and hope someone will ring them. Really bad as anybody who doesnt understand can fall for it thinking the letter is from an official, that is why I didnt like him calling himself an ivac officer.

To WB1973 - can I ask which IP firm you are with, as I am keeping tabs on the firms they are writing to who they claim are "IVA factories"

That ties in - as others who are with Freeman Jones have received letters this week. Thank you for the information.

My wife and I keep getting letters from debtDr (of South Petherton) despite having finished our IVAs in January. These always come in a handwritten envelope and suggest that they "...are concerned that an IVA may not be the best solution for you."

They must be using a very old register, as our names came off after three days of completing our IVAs or they are getting details from elsewhere.

The author of the letter is Alan Oatham, who appears to post on these boards (his tagline includes the web address to debtDr).

Perhaps Alan could enlighten us all why he is sending letters to people he does not know, or has detailed knowledge of their financial situation - apart from probably knowing them to be in IVAs which is no doubt sourced from the Insolvency Register - quoting his concerns.

Interested to hear your views, Alan?

Hi All,

I am concious that I should not solicit for business on this site - so simply advise that letters are sent to people in IVA's to enquire if there are any issues and whether they would like a free independent review.

In many instances the current solution is appropraite and in some alternatives routes are taken.

I seek to find the right solution for the person in their given situation - I help people and am proud of it

All the best Alan

Alan

I don't think that answering my question could be tantamount to soliciting for business, but I am curious as to the nature of these letters.

By sending such letters out, it may be possible that you are confusing people, at a time when the misuse of information held on the insolvency register is particularly sensitive and why would anyone need an independent review if they are already being served by a qualified professional?

Are you aware, that iva.co.uk has a petition running at the moment for the banning of the register from the internet and that this is receiving much support?

Can you tell us how you target individuals, or are your mailshots sent at random? The IVA Council tell us that they are only targetting "IVA factories", but I was horrified to learn that some of my own clients had been targetted - and the amount of time that IPs are currently spending on reassuring their clients about letters like yours is particularly annoying.

I appreciate you have a business to run, and that the business is based on assisting people with difficulties, but you will appreciate that this is a sensitive issue at present for a lot of members of my profession.

Hi Melanie,

It would be hoped that all were being served as well as you serve your clients, and from my few days on the site I can see from feedback that you care and do a great job.

However there have been many instances when other providers have opted for an iva when it was not appropraite or not sustainable.

Andy has offered an interview on IVA.co.uk.TV and we will be pleased to accept this to enable a better understanding of our approach in assisting people getting the right solution to become debt free

All the best Alan

My turn this morning to receive a letter from 'The IVA Council' advising me that I may have been mis-sold my IVA. Wasn't sure if this was a genuine letter or an attempt to con me. The bit at the bottom of the letter saying:

'Important: if you wish your case to be reviewed please do not inform you IP until after the assessment is complete'

This did concern me, so I thought i would look at this website first and having done so I can see that this is an attempt to con me, so the letter will be sent to my IP people (who are Debt Free direct by the way) to deal with.
