This is a quote: When IP licences are granted, we all understand the duty of care we owe to our clients in this regard.
Strange as this is rare!
They say they have a duty of care and yet as soon as the debtor signs on the dotted line the IP's duty of care ends for the debtor and begins for the creditors and the IP will go to ANY lengths to get as much as possible for the creditors and will delay the closure anyway they can with in the law even if it means tottering on that edge.
There are problems with closures at the moment and If I was in that position I wouldn't be very happy.
IPs are duty bound to return as much as is reasonably possible to creditors, you really need to press your IP for closure, help with any PPI claim and work towards receiving your completion certificate.
A sweeping statement and not representative of all IP's in my opinion. My IP remains 100% in my journey to debt freedom with me...obviously doing her job to gain as much for the benefit of my creditors. For me she is contactable and understanding and she is the first person I talk to in respect of any financial worries and often we work a way forward.
Yes I know I'm lucky to have made a good choice of IP and can imagine the frustration of some not being able to talk with their IP etc., as I know for sure my IVA would have failed a long time ago without the support of my IP. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
The IVA protocol is now in place, that has made a big difference to the IVA industry and there are far less problems than there used to be [apart from the PPI/closure issues !!]

Hi
The article you refer to is five years old.

Regards
I still don't fully understand the Protocol, I am assured it is a good thing yet I have an investment property (sounds good but negative equity and cannot sell it) and because of this I am told the Protocol does not apply to me...
It would be great if sweeping statements such as the one made here would not be made by people with little overall knowledge of the profession. A bad experience with your own IP does not give anyone the right to comment in public about members of my profession in the way that is being done on this forum right now. Pretty sad and extremely annoying.

Hi Melanie,
I understand your feelings towards the comments being made, but, from "our" perspective there seems to be a lot of flack coming our way from IP's.
From reading the posts I get the impression that a lot of people in IVA's felt the IP was working for them and helping them "fight", for want of a word, against the creditors.
Now that the PPI / bank charges issue has arisen people are realising that the IP is actually working on behalf of the creditors and has a duty to get as much money back for them as possible and by whatever means, whether the debtor likes it or not. I think this is the issue that has come as a shock to many and is the root of the problem.
In hindsight there was always information around covering the role of the IP but as an IP you must accept that most people have gone through a lot before accepting they need help and they do not fully read / understand what is put before them they are just happy for a helping hand to get things back on track..
Not wanting to add fuel to the fire but ......IP's deserve the fees that they charge. In my experience the IP we used worked tirelessly to support us throughout the IVA right to the very end, and beyond. At each review period or when we were paying additional monies into the pot...the IP and there team ensured we were well catered for in our allowances, whilst ensuring our creditors received maximum return.
This forum is for people needing support and words of encouragement.....a lot of IPs give up a significant amount of time to support te forum by providing expert advice and direction.
We all enter into debt expecting to pay it back ....things happen to cause us to be in Iva's .......we need to work with our IP and Creditors to make it work ...joint responsibilities.
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

You seem to have picked a good one. When we started on the IVA trail we first went to CCCS but were told we had to use GT as I had my own business. We had a handful of conversations on the phone and only ever get an email at review date for our I&E.
We have only ever met 1 person in nearly 3 years and he was only a "representative" who came just to get basic info from us.
