I had started recently to sell my children's clothes as they grow out of them on eBay, I have a nearly four year old and a 5 month old baby. I would use the money to then buy clothes that do fit. Am I still allowed to do this during the iva, I don't have to hand over the money do I?

Hi,

You can sell your bits and bobs on there no problem at all, and keep the money. I do it often and what I make funds further purchases on there the same as you.

It's only if you are running a business that you would have to declare it.

Excellent, it's not too bad in the summer but in the winter one childs coat and pair of shoes would use the whole months allowance without the other child and the rest of their clothes that they are only in for 5 mind, and car seats, toys etc. I have all of my little boys to put on there and have started putting it into size order and taking photos, hoping it will get a few of their winter bits. Since starting this process a few weeks ago it makes me feel guilty if I buy anything even though know it's only stuff that is needed.

As Jan says, as long as its not a business you can sell and buy on ebay.

I sold some old stuff I had lying around, unfortunately I got the ebay bug and ended up buying for than I sold !! [:0]

It's amazing the lovely new bits I've managed to get from ebay for my pending arrival at a fraction of the shop price.
I'd recommend ebay to anyone looking for baby bits, it has saved me a fortune and fitted in with my budgetting for my IVA.

Ebay have it cornered as they are the biggest and is what most people use

When I was selling my car last year I signed for EBID, as they do not charge for listing, only when sold. Or if you think you might have a few things, they do a life time 1 off fee (used to be £50) and you don't have to pay anything for a basic listing or sale

Might be worth a look and work out the sale fee against listings etc on ebay. Only downside is it is Ebid not as popular as Ebay

I might try a boot sale too, always good for making money. A good idea would be to keep the kids clothes from the year and then in summer do a boot sale to get the money for the winter coats etc, think I might do that!

I used to run my own online store and also sold on eBay and eBid. I wouldn't rule eeBid out - more and more people are going over there.

eBay is very expensive for the private seller, although I still have my business account (can't change it back to private) so I get reduced fees on the personal bits and bobs I sell - result!

It is also very easy to get conned and ripped off, I am not a big fan these days.

Most of the stuff I put on Ebay now starts at 99p, so listing is free and I get one free picture, so that suits me. I don't find it expensive at all.

I have so much stuff that doesn't fit anymore, and daughter has just announced she is having a clearout of her clothes so that will be going on shortly!

I went off Ebay when they stopped allowing sellers to leave negative feedback if a buyer doesn't pay. Add that to the fees and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be.

I sometimes buy clothes on Ebay (I love River Island combats and I've had some real bargains) but my pet hate is sellers who don't put the leg length of trousers! And I don't mean short, standard or long, I mean the length in inches! Sorry, rant over.

I've got a few bits and pieces to sell, but at the moment I can't be bothered as it's things like boots, which are awkward to pack.

I always put down the length of the trousers I sell, plus measurements from arm to arm and waist.

If there is nothing on a listing I want, I'll either ignore it, or send them a question, depending upon how long the listing still has to go.

Just had a couple of pairs of brilliant shorts from there - both brand new (and a size 14! Can't remember the last time I got into that size!) and I think for both, with P&P was £10!
