No, I don't think the solicitor was talking about bankruptcy proceedings, as if they were to do that there would be little chance of them getting the debt repaid.

Within Brachers they have a specialist insolvency team, but also a separate team that deal with debt collection for Amex, and it is that team which will be dealing with the Charging Order application.

Thank you Melanie for that. Do you think I will be receiving correspondence from them which states "unless we receive a satisfactory response by whatever date" blah blah or would they have already tried to put a charging order on my house. I am so in the dark about these matters so any info would help.

They cannot do this without communicating to you, and the Court itself is duty bound to send you details of the application as well. Keep an eye on the post, and if you do get notification of an Interim Charging Order hearing, take professional advice at that time.
