Ah spanna don't be embarrassed or ashamed! Wev all been there and have the t shirt!! The biggest hurdle is the one that you have just jumped and that's accepting and doing something about it! Once the IVA is in place you can get on with your life!

All the best and please don't worry :)

I know weve jumped a big hurdle but ive read a few posts and people say they only have a few creditors/debts but i have 90 - 100 letters here all stating their individual debt - i feel bad for Mels team having to sort this mess out!!

It's what they do, Spanna (and they do it well).

When I sat down and added up all my little bits it came to almost double what I had been telling myself it was ! A bit of a shock --- but it's all beimg dealt with now .... and yours will be, soon, too :-)
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

You might have a lot of individual creditors Spanna, but the debts are individually quite small, and collectively are at the average sort of level we deal with in our practice - so please don't worry and do get the paperwork to us as quickly as you can.

Hi Spanna
Im with Melanie team too and I send all my documents last week. This week I had an email confirming they had all they need to finalise our proposal and yesterday had a call to agree a time for next week to have a chat over the phone( to confirm all the details). Very quick and extremely professional.
I know what you mean about feeling embarrassed but try to relax now . You are doing the best you can and I am very confident that Melanie and her team will turn your life around (and mine) for the better.

Good Luck with the Journey, I too feel embarrassed and I am no sure how I got this point, but this is for the best and hopefully I can still pay what I can and also be able to live, I was unable to do the basic things like buy food and it all became to much...:)

Hi Spanna1310. I'll flip it and say the banks and stores should be shamed and embarrassed too. Ok - there was no gun to anyone's head, and could say no to credit, but they rode on the backs of consumers - robbing people with useless PPI and/or dodgy charges. How easy was it to extend the overdraft, or 'consolidate with a bigger loan? You pop into a shop to buy a top or shirt, and they are enticing you with “if you open an account today, you get 20% off.“ It's a stark reality when you see it on laid out in front of you, but feel proud that you have decided enough is enough, you are aiming to get a grip and take responsibility. Mel's team will help you all the way, and you have us too. All the best. x
IVA journey started: 30th March 2009. Settled: 17th July 2012. Completion Certificate received: 13th March 2013. Breathe. x

Yes I think we all brush it under carpet and think il be ok next month but next month comes and it's more going out so you use one card to but food petrol etc then pay minimum back then they offer you more credit and cus your sinking you take it and all of a sudden you up to neck in the s??? And if like my bank I've been waiting 4 weeks for a call now to speak to me to try reslove or help my debt problems with loan credit cards etc but nothing
But if I rang and said can I sort a loan out I would get call within day or so
It a big step to take and hopefully sleep will come back to me and il be less stressed and stop comfort eating lol
At times just reading these posts helps me realise I'm not a outcast and there prob more in mess then realise so glad I'm taking big step to getting things sorted out

Bricky , spanna

We've all been there at some point and the hardest thing is realising that you are in a spiral with no way out

Choosing the iva route is really responsible , will see your creditors get a better return than bankruptcy and importantly for you will see creitor harrasment cease

Well done , you may be at the beginning, but after say maybe year 2 the months fly and whereas I always imagined my final 12 months would drag, in actual fact they flew by

You may have the odd hurdle at soe point during the IVA ( I had a major unexpected problem in year 2 ) but if this happens, don't stress and make sure you use the forum for advice and reassurance

Well done , good luck & best wishes
Last payment made April 2012
Certificate received 1st Nov 2012

Nothing to be embarrassed about - you are on the road to seeking help and support, thousands of other people are in the same position across the country but they haven't yet reached that point that we all have and said "we need help"....you should be proud of what you are doing and addressing your debt issue.....in just a few months times you will look back and think entering into your IVA was the best step ever made......stay focused and I am sure with Melanie and her team you will soon be making those monthly payments to your IP and on the road to debt freedom.
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

Hi Spanna and welcome i echo what everyone else has said thus far, there is no need to be embarrassed at all at least you are facing up to the fact that you have debt there are many others who aren't.

Good luck with your IVA application, the first step towards a new life and believe me, the other side of that is fantastic, i'm now living that after 5 years which in all honesty went very quickly. xx
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
