Hi
Yesterday I had to go to a financial trainning session because the council are closing the cashiers dept(which is why my job is under treat) and they want tenants to pay by different methods preferbably Direct Debit. They want us to talk about basic bank account etc. The trainer started going on about debt etc and I could feel myself getting hotter and hotter. She asked if anyone knew what an IVA was! Everyone shook their heads including me. There was no way I was going to say anything in front of anybody but I was glad when they changed the subject! Did'nt find out anything I already knew.

Oh Linda, I find myself listening to people talking about IVA's or there friend is always in one and the rubbish they spout makes me fuming inside as they talk as though it's the easiest debt solution in the world!!! I always keep quiet, the other week at work I said to a colleague that someone had gone bankrupt and she didn't even know an individual could declare bankruptcy so I started back tracking saying well that's what I read etc., x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

People I work with know that I post on a debt advice forum, and that I know pretty much what I am talking about (most of the time!)

I have told them though that I got into it because of my step kids being in debt, and just carried on as I wanted to help people.

Have to say that it doesn't worry me if people start talking about debt - I just don't join in the conversation.

It is amazing how little people know about debt solutions and which is why when the people who can fix everything for you with one phone call make big bucks as they prey on these people.

The only people who know about our situation are my step children. My own daughter knows money is tight, but that's all.

The way I look at is that my finances are my business. If people choose to discuss debt at work and even possibly they know who are in deep debt, I just keep out of it. Even my parents talk about it sometimes - they would be horrified if they knew about our IVA. I just agree with what they have to say and let it all wash over me.

I wouldn't mind telling people but why does everybody around me appear to be solvent! Two of my work colleagues partners are financial advisors one being a wealth management manager!

I cringe inside sometimes but carry on, my daughter now knows that's the youngest one but I told her to stop her thinking I was always being mean and she may only be 16 but is a very wise girl for her age.

One of my colleagues lives in a £500k house, her husband has his own business and they are very comfortably off.

Another one has well off parents, the house she lives in was bought by her parents and mortgage is negligible to them. She also won £19k on Deal or No Deal last year!

Good luck to them, I just don't talk about money at work.

Lesley - your daughter is a real credit to you.

Thanks Jan, I just sometimes look back at my finances and think if only I'd been careful we should now be at such a stage in life to be comfortable not struggling a re-educating ourselves in respect of finances. Oh well 26 payments in so not much longer until we're comfortable x

Hi
How I agree with you all. People around me all to seem to be well off.Like everybody else I wish I had done things differently but as you say hindsight is a wonderful thing!
As I have said before I do not want anybody to know about my IVA.
