No one knows about mine and that's the way I want it to stay!

My hubbys brother just went BR so we watched it happen because of personal debt. We weren't in the position to help at all ourselves.

I thought we could avoid an IVA and BR by organising a payment plan with all creditors ourselves but it has gotten too much for us now.

Now we have seen somene else go through the process and have seen the relief on their faces and how they look younger and less haggered - it gives us hope for the future. They have managed holidays still (not expensive ones but they never had expensive ones anyway)
When I was younger I did what I knew - now I know better I do better!

I guess we too used to 'look' well off. You never know what's going on behind closed doors!
7 year IVA completed in December 2016 - there is light at the end of that tunnel

When you're living a financial lie then it becomes too easy to pretend all is ok on the outside when you know inside everything is a mess and getting messier.
If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.

Funds paid to date accepted as F&F 16th August 2013, the wait for completion begins.
Wait over....certificate recieved 3rd May 2014

We could spend for England - exotic holidays and new cars plus clothes (even when I didn't need them)

Fortunately, in one way, hubby's ill health means that we can get round the holidays and spending loads on cars (he has a motability car) so it's not awkward for me.

My parents would not understand at all, neither would work.

I prefer to keep between us and our forum friends.

Like you Jan I never want people to know, my mum would not understand and it would worry her.
I wish I had lots to show for my debts but I have'nt.We did have holidays abroad, Turkey was the last place we went in 2008. I have the excuse of job uncertainties at the moment. I would never tell Hubby's family as they have very strong views about people being in debt.
Plus I am still ashamed that I am in this postion and always will be.

I think when my IVA is over I'll be able to talk more freely about it, why I think like that I'm not sure but I'll have re-educated myself in respect of finances and sure I will be more confident.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I can speak quite freely about it - I just mention my stepkids!

My parents would not understand at all. Hubby's parents have been gone for a long time, but I know his brother wouldn't be sympathetic.
