You don't realise how much in your life you have depended on credit or credit cards until you have emergencies in an IVA.
Oh boy and have I had my fill this weekend. My laptop finally died a death on Saturday, I'm freelance so I need it, I'm currently working on OH's laptop and selling our possessions like crazy on ebay to raise some cash & mum helping with the rest! Sunday the car died! TUrned out it was the battery which had actually lost the plot, so HAD to buy a new battery, mmmm another £90 down the pan!
Then yesterday mum fell and broke her hip, I live a long way away from her, she's in the NE I'm in the SE, we only went up 2 weeks ago -courtesy of selling a treadmill on ebay - but the petrol was £140 return and we don't even have a gas guzzler. We just can't go up [:(] I know she's in safe hands in the hospital but as I'm the only child it would be nice to go, but we just can't financially, sad huh?
Only good news is that Payplan were great yet again, one of my clients is paying me later than usual and I wouldn't have had enough to cover my IVA payment but they said as I'm self employed they understand so I had to cancel the SO, set it back up again for next month and in the meantime pay when my cheque has cleared!
I'm hoping that is all the emergencies in the year gone in 3 days, I've just about had enough!

Gosh what a rotten couple of days for you. Sincerely hope that your Mum is going to be ok. Although you can't visit her I imagine you can talk as often as you wish. Is she anywhere near Norwich? Just wondering if I could do anything to help. x
Only one way to go from there, and thats upwards! I agree that credit cards were sometimes a godsend when emergencies like broken washing machines, cars and other stuff cropped up where the cash just wasnt available. The problem was the non emergency stuff like holidays, clothes, TV's etc!![:I] I dont miss it a bit and I still get a tight feeling in my chest when I think back to how bad things were before I took the IVA step. Hope your mum is OK and you find some way of getting up to see her.

aw thanks, that's so kind. No she is in the North East and I'm in the South East, such a long expensive journey! She had a hip replacement today and I know she'll have friends to visit, but I know she'd like to see us. Having said that she knows about the IVA so would probably worry about the petrol costs if we went as well!

Fingers crossed the hip replacement goes well - sure it will. I've just re-read your first post and can see that its you in the SE, goodness knows why I didn't see it in the first place - I must be getting Old. Anyway keep us posted about your Mum's recovery and give her my best wishes x
What a terrible time you are having!!!! So sorry to hear about your mother and I hope she makes a full recovery.
What a shame that you won't be able to get up there to see her.
Glad Payplan are being supportive though.

So sorry to hear about your mum Littlefi, I hope she's doing ok after her op, would it be cheaper to go up on the train or even National express? £140 in fuel is an awful lot!!
We had our fair share of expenses only a couple of months into our IVA which we somehow managed to get through, have been ok since then but I keep wondering when the next thing to go wrong will be
Sorry to hear this littlefi, I admit it's my fear that I will be stuck 135 miles from my parents with no money for fuel.
My thoughts too Lem - I know you can get some good train deals if you can book in advance. Prob no good for this week but maybe try for next week? Coach can be an awful lot cheaper too and although it takes longer, you can settle back and read a good book.
Worth looking at the train fares as my daughter has just purchased a ticket from our home town in the east to Manchester for £24.00 return! I couldn't have driven her there for that!

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
well mum deteriorated and is now in the cardiac unit, so I'm having to go up tomorrow morning, my friends have loaned me money as it's an emergency. Thank god I have understanding friends
