I work for a well known high street bank as a contractor (for the last 2 yrs) and have been advised today that my contract will be termed because they have just found out that I have an IVA (after I disclosed this fact to them, because I am just too honest)!

Anyway on employment I was duly credit checked + cleared with no problems, so seems strange that my employer has now changed tack on IVA status. On commencement of IVA i was specfically advised that this was the best option for me, as an IVA would still allow me to work in the financial services sector. Has anyone else had this experience? more importantly is my employer correct in terminating my contract due to IVA status alone, which was willingly declared at point of employment? I am now considering clearing my IVA early, is this possible? as now very concerned that i will not be able to gain employment elsewhere. until this is removed from my files.

Hi selina and welcome to the forum

As you are not a direct employee of the bank, then presumably you have no employment rights in this regard, so I suspect that the bank can do what they like. This seems so unfair when over the last years you have worked hard to continue paying your debts.
