Hi
Not a question? But a sickening observation! I have been in an IVA for twelve months. My husband and I had an excellent credit rating, no defaults or ccjs. We both had good salaries so borrowing was never a problem! Great news for the bank eh! Then hubby loses job we can't afford to pay everything back, we want to keep the house, pointless selling it as there is little equity. So heh! ho! IVA. Here we are like thousands of other people in the same situation, kicking, fighting and struggling to keep our heads above the ever lapping waves of budgeted living costs and IVA commitment. Then! enter the sharks! Agencies! catalogue fold! want to help me to get out of our IVA. The solutions offered are incredulous, and would leave me paying high interest rates for many years. More recent the band of cybernet robbers! who want to charge me as much as £40 for their apparently exclusive list of high street Banks that would provide an IVA/Bankrupt with a basic account!!! Even when you are struggling to survive these B.....ds are out there preying on people who are feeling very low, vulnerable and sometimes desperate. If it can help anyone, I found for free! three banks that will let an undischarged IVA/Bankrupt open an account. Cooperative plc, Barclays and Nationwide. The Cooperative will issue an Electron card which is useful when shopping, and online banking. Finely one last observation from the bottom of the barrel. I stood in a que at Lloyd's Bank, a young man roughly dressed accompanied by another who translated "he wants to open a bank account, he works for me" Clerk; "have you been in the country at least three months" Yes was the answer and on the production of a passport and a provisional driving license the account was all but opened. I have been in the country since birth 49.6yrs. I have worked full time since I was 18yrs earn a good salary but I am in an IVA. Cough! cough! the computer says NO!

Thanks for reading

Hiya and welcome to the forum Valf.
There are plenty of 'sharks' as you put it out there to take advantage of people in our situation but thankfully we have this forum to advise us and let us know that we don't need them for their services. It's just a pity that everyone in diffeculties didn't know about here, maybe creditors should start printing the forums details on the back of their bills, like they do with payplan......I somehow don't think it will happen.
It's nice to be back......

I am sorry for the way you are feeling, I was at a low and applied over the pone for a loan to pay off all debts,it sounded so good. I felt relief for a short spell, I got all the docs in the post and sent off 49.50 admin fee. The next correspondence was a letter stating that they (cant remember the company) could not help me but they knew a company that could, oh yes they sure did!!!! the company was welcome finance and their apr was 45% obviously I did not bother but at a time when I was low and skint I was 49.50 worse off. Sharks yes indeed.

Something similar happened to my son, Marsha and that was welcome finance. It was when he was after buying his car and he didn't think he would get car finance, so he followed up on a flyer they had sent out, without our knowledge can I add. He called them and they assured him he could get finance with typical APR of 15.9%. He got the paperwork through and sent it all off, he called them to make the admin payment of £49.50. Hey presto, got the final paperwork through and the interest on the loan was actually, if I remember rightly, 64.9%!!!!! As you can imagine, the papers went in the bin. He did contact them to complain but they just quoted the 'typical APR' line. He too was £49.50 worse off but with a valuable lesson learned, I know he won't make that mistake again!!!!!
It's nice to be back......
