at our local farm I pay £90 for a whole lamb includimng Offal and i generally geta a 45KG lamb which works out a £2 a KG work it out for yourself I can have it fully butchered or we usually do it ourselves as I married an ex Chef
a half pig is usually £120 again about £2 a KG
and the offal, bones etc we cook up with old veg and rice or pasta and feed 3 very appreciateive labs for a few days
Buying direct from the farm also works with dairy produce and chickens and veg
if you can buying in bulk is alaways cheaper
we will not go back to buying from the supermarket when we finish the IVA we enjoy the fresh goods too much
We also Barter with the farmer My hubby fishes for trout and he trades Fish for goods great deal all round
and the granddaughter get to visit the farm and see the animals for free all in all a good venture
Just an update we finally finished our IVA Yipee and this Buying form the farm direct is one trick we will be carrying on with amongst others
1 thing we have learned is how much food we wasted and threw away before the IVA
I wont be going back to those days !!! we buy it we eat it if not now then its cooked and frozen for another day
the other thing we learned was to monitor our spending .. by asking do we need it, can we get it cheaper and finally do we really need it or do we just "want it " there is a big difference
