Have registered with 11 agencies within a 30 mile radius, all with promises of work and since I lost my job 12th July have done 6 days work. Fed up now of registering with them. They all think they are doing you big favour by promising work and then not delivering.

I admit i was offered some work the other day but i am not prepared to get out my bed at 3am and get home at 6pm for £80. Who would? Seen as there is such a 'shortage' of HGV drivers you would think they would paymore. Dont care how deperate i am, i refuse to do them sort of hours for peanuts.

Sorry to moan
Steve.

Moan away Steve, I don't blame you for not going silly hours for even sillier money. I don't know what to suggest, I really hope you find something soon. X

Don't know if it helps Steve but hubby is LGV driver and when he needed his last 2 jobs he literally went through yellow pages and wrote to every company he could think of that had LGV needs - prob about 60 letters went out! The same standard letter each time just different company address on top - and for every 30 letters her sent out he generally got 3 interviews and luckily got job each time.

Yes it was a pain but it worked for us - sure you've probably already tried this but just wanted to share what happened to us in case it helps you - best wishes and good luck x

The more you ask Steve the more answers you get, some will be negative but theres a better chance of someone saying yes if you ask 20 times than twice!!!

Good luck mate.

Hi Steve I have to say that my husband did the same 25 years ago when he passed his lgv or hgv as it was then. We went right through the phone book and telephoned loads, his problem then was that they wanted experience, and as he had just passed his test, he was hitting a brick wall, the last one we rang is the company he is with now . I know you said before that it was a bit far but if you change your mind hubby says there are jobs avaliable , they are using large numbers of agency at the moment. If you want any more info then let me know and I will ask admin to pass my email , and can give you further info.

Ang xx

Hi Steve
It may not be what you want but I seem to remember a couple of years ago this company were hiring drivers to deliver cars around the UK. The company is United Fleet Distribution and their site address is http://www.unitedfleet.co.uk/

Might be worth a look.
