we got our iva accepted last month and for the first 2 weeks i was so happy and sleeping well again! BUT the past 3 weeks i am worrying so much about the iva... such as, what if it fails, dont know why i have started all this worrying as we are not getting phone calls or letters or anything like that. could anyone tell me the reasons ivas fail,i suppose i am just scared of doing something wrong during it. thankyou
I went through the same thing. Please don't torture yourself, as long as you do what is agreed with your IP i.e. make the payments agreed and comply with any terms agreed in your proposal you will be OK. The more you worry the worse you'll feel. Try keeping busy and making sure you have lots of things to do (you probably have too many things to do), for me, getting out more with the dog and excercisng more helped, in addition to talking my worries through with my husband ours was a joint IVA.
I suggest you keep this forum at your fingertips it's a great source of support.
I worried constantly throughout mine on and off and I needn't have - check out my blog tears and laughter in an IVA read all 3 articles and you really will see what I mean.
It's the unknown
Which firm are you with? There are lots of representatives from good and trusted IVA firms on this forum who look out for and help those in IVA's.
You have come through a major time of stress and worry prior to getting your IVA approved and should give yourself a pat on the back for coming through and getting IVA approval, it was the next best thing to a lottery win for us, and although it's been tough sticking to a tight budget the 5 years for us have flown and we are still in shock that we have very recently finished our IVA and are still coming to terms with the fact that it's over -I'm now worrying all the time until my end certificate pops through the door which Declan on this forum is helping us with - so you see what I mean you can constantly worry yourelf into the ground and you don't want to do this so try and keep calm, stay positive and most of all WELL DONE your IVA was approved!
need to smile today? go on check out my blogs - I'll add to them regularly
Our IVA's over YIPPEE unbelievable!Seems like yesterday it was approved despite everything
thanks oscar, yes i have spoke to my husband about my worries but he has none at all, i know i am a worrier! and i am trying to be more positive and keeping busy with dog walks etc.and i know there are people worse off than us.thanks again for your advice and i will read your blogs.
Hi janez just go to IVA blogs at the top of the page in the corner and it's about the seventh one down (at the minute anyway) tears and laughter sides to an IVA
I am also a worrier and my husband is not, so yours will see that you are worrying and he will probably be worried about you worrying! so best to talk it through
Well done again on getting IVA approval
Oscar

Just to add to what Oscar - mentioned, at the start of your IVA - most people can find it daunting - as there is no credit cards to fall back on if needs be. It take time /practice and hard work to get the budgeting right (certainly now that not a day passes - without something else going up) - but you will get there. [:)]

Hi Janez - your feelings are exactly the same as mine were at the same stage. I think it is perfectly natural to worry and even have doubts. It does pass and yiu will become to be more at ease with your situation. Look on the bright side becuase you are now sorting out your future, one which will be much brighter when you are finally debt free - this is the best thing that you could have done - Big Smiles x
give it another few months and you will be asking yourself why you worried.
It took me about three months to get into the budgeting mood and it was all worth while - I would keep a constant eye on our bank account and each month would aim to have at least £10 left at the end of the month - enough for a bottle of wine, or a takeway as a treat !
Before you know it you will be at your annual review stage, and then the second one and then the third one - seriously do not panic...use the forum as a sounding board- we are always here to support and offer advice.
Even those that have finished their IVA.s (like me) can't stay away - I love to offer the help and support to you all and it is important that you feel able to ask questions !
keep posting !
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
We have been through a roller coaster of emotions and have had our ups and downs - especially when hubby's car died about six months in!!
The forum has been great for us and I dread to think where we'd be now without it! Do try to save bits for smaller treats - we shared a portion of fish and chips a few weeks ago as we've had a really tight month! Bulked out with some bread and butter and washed down with a bottle of £3.29 wine! Small treats keep you sane - and we're already planning where to go post IVA!
hi oscar ive just read your blogs, i am sat here with tears in my eyes, you are such a brave person and an inspiration to me and im sure to other people too.
Hi janez - all very normal feelings. However, I would say, you have been offered a lifeline to get rid of all your debt. I would take some lessons from hubby and learn to enjoy this now and try to not to be so worried. A bit of worry never did anyone any harm and we do have to keep on top of things to make sure we are in control for the next 5 years, however, you will settle into it and hopefully enjoy the reduced stress.
Have you written a blog? It does help, honest. I do it every now and again and it's good to read back over your previous ones to remind yourself how far you have come.
Keep posting on here and joining in. It's great to have the friendships and I have jumped on a lot of the advice given to help me budget and get through as pain free as possible.
Hi Janez - hope you are feeling brighter today. Keep positive and remind yourself that you are doing an amazing thing (becoming debt free) and look forward to the future!! I've nearly forgotten what a wretched credit card looks like and I used to have 16 to choose from. Life is so much better now not having to worry about the postie and telephone calls from the likes of Mercers etc. 5 years is not a lifetime, just the term of a normal Bank loan and I think thats the way to look at it. Take care and keep smiling - you are not alone x
thanks footymad for your support, havent felt as bad to-day yes you are right to say to look at it as a 5yr bank load, dosent sound as bad does it.this forum is a lifesaver.
there will come a time when you forget your in an iva and things do seem normal.you will always say "what if this goes wrong or that breaks"but these things happen to everyone not just us in a iva.if it does pick up the phone and tell your ip and they will sort something out simples eeekk.
as time goes on you will get better at budgeting and improvising and it can be fun getting one over everybody else who are prob still running up there cards and debts but your now going in the opposite direction and actullay saving money.
keep your chins up(arnt i cruel)and chillax as my daughter keeps telling me[:D]
