Chances are that you gave your phone number out on your initial applications to the creditors. I am ex directory and they constantly phoned me.

gwdihw good luck to you too in your journey and hope it goes smoothly for you.

We're all different and deal with the creditors and there are many different ways but in the end we're all striving towards that outcome of acceptance and completion whether it be IVA, Bankruptcy or a DMP. Our goal is to be debt free and have that fresh start.

The journey on the way can be daunting but rewarding too.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

You will experiance a full range of emotions on this journey of becoming debt free and so far the elation of being accepted for me and my budgeting and the prospect of doing Christmas in cash out weighs the bad low and despairng days I felt pre IVA.

This site is a God send I am single and have only shared my IVA with recently with my best friend so reading other peoples experiances and their support has been invaluable.

Good Morning! Thanks for all your comments and helpful advice - don't feel as bad today. To change the subject slightly, we are due to have a house valuation carried out this weekend, but one estate agent wanted to charge us about £100!! Just wondered how everyone managed to get a free written valuation? I'm off work today and was going to ring round a couple of agents - thanks x

What do you say was the reason you needed a valuation? In my case I came up with some lame white lie that my employer, that has a head office 100 miles away from home, wanted me to take a job based at head office and I was thinking of selling or renting out my house.

They came round the same day and I had a letter from them two days later, with no mention of a fee. I merely told them later that my move was off.

Hi - glad you feel a bit better today -just remember these people who phone, have a script to stick to and will try anything to get you to make a payment. it will stop eventually, just repeat you're entering into an IVA and hang up.....or keep the phone unplugged [:D]

Make sure you never return their calls using a work landline or they may store that number.

As for the estate agents, we pretended we were considering selling and didn't pay any fees. If you're having problems, contact your IP and ask them what can you do...

good luck xx

I have told the agent who is coming round at the weekend that my husband's employer wants him to re-locate and that we need to sell - just wanted to make sure that was the right thing to say? Like you, thefsq, I was going to say the move was off if they call me afterwards. That's great, glad I'm thinking along the same lines as you. Julie, thanks for your kind comments, my phone is staying unplugged today!! I do intend to write to my creditors letting them know the situation, but there's now way I'm speaking to them!! x

rainbowofhope good luck with the estate agents. I just told them I "may" need to get rid of the house quickly due to possibly inheriting a property and I also used the "move because of work" excuse with another company. I told them to make the valuation realistic as I may have to get rid in 4 - 6 weeks so I wanted a very quick sale, otherwise they would of priced the house as high as they could to give me the feel good factor.

Did you recieve a sample letter from your IP to send to all your creditors?....I did with Melanie Giles firm and just copied and posted to each one.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

Hi rainbowofhope.

Unfortunately the calls are quite normal. I unplugged my phone and managed to avoid them as much as possible. I did speak to some that were rude but try not let it upset you. MBNA were my worst. They also sent a postcard which sounded like someone was calling to the house but it was just a trick for you to ring them and then they tried to get me to make a payment.
We had our house valued but Payplan arranged it and we did not have to pay.

Linda

Hi Pennyless & countrygirl - thanks for your advice. I've got an agent coming round at 11.30 this morning - when I told him my husband was re-locating, he said he charges £20!! I said no way, we need to sell the house, and he thought it was just for my husband's employer's benefit!! To answer your question Pennyless, I haven't received any sample letters from my IP, was just going to send them some time this week, explaining about our IVA intentions.

Glad to hear that you are now on the right track with getting your documentation together - in my experience this is always the hardest bit.

Thanks Mel - to be honest I am finding this the hardest bit! Just wish I'd kept a proper filing system so wouldn't be relying on companies sending me information - never mind, hopefully I'll have everything by the end of this week. Oh - and intend on setting up a proper filing system from now on!! x

Good Luck Rainbow, every step you take you will feel better and believe it or not you will actually start to deal better with the creditor hassle.

Some posters on actually started to enjoy the daily 'sparing' with callers. Hopefully wont be too long for you now.

You can always send your IP what you have already, and send the missing bits on later. A well done on the filing system - it will make life easier for you in the future to be a bit more organised!
