Im nearly at the end of my first year of my IVA and I am pleased but the 4 years left seemes like its going to take forever...

I have been trying to not let my IVA stand in my way of moving forward with my life but finding somewhere to rent is proving difficult, let alone anything else.

Hi, sorry you're finding things a bit of a drag at the minute but think back 12 months where you were in respect of creditors etc., is it not better?

Take one month at a time and knock it off a calender or simmilar, you'll look back one day and see what a journey you've been on.

Have you tried a private landlord as they dont' always credit check.

remember we're all here to help you alone your journey x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi Ruth, hey try not to let it drag you down, I think the first year is the biggest hurdle to get over. You have to adjust to life with a budget live without the back up of credit, it's hard! But once you get the first hurdle over the second one follows & then things will start to feel abit better.
Renting isn't easy in a IVA something I never thought of when I started mine, private landlords is an easier option but I know to well there's not many of them these days. I moved house in my 2nd year, but it was with a private landlord & friend of my dads so we got away with paying no deposit, so very lucky really for our situation.
You could sit down with a reputable agent explain the situation & show proof that you have always paid your rent, (rent books, bank statements, references).
I's there anyone you know that could be a guarantor for you? I know it's an option I may have to take as I may have to move soon.
If your struggling to raise a deposit for a rented property, a payment break is an option to you in a IVA if it comes to it. I never thought or wanted to take payment breaks in my IVA & I've had 2 already.

I know it's tough but your doing so well getting towards year 1, you have to remind yourself there will be an end & as time goes by your one step closer, hang in there x

Thank you both for your positivity. I am in a much better situation now than I was 12 months ago and I am a year closer to debt freedom. I need to keep this in mind :)

That's the way Ruth, it can seem a long journey when alone but do use the forum as support. To be honest I'm not sure I'd have coped in an IVA without the forum as I'd have felt isolated. Prior to the IVA I considered I was the only person in debt and I don't think I would have coped for five years believing that I was the only person in an IVA. x

Glad your feeling better Ruth, you could do with a count down ticker on your side bar of your profile, it helps to see the months dissapearing & the end getting closer!

Just looking back on Lesley last post on this thread, I can very much relate to it, my 4th year anniversary of being in the forum comes up next month, where does the time go! Stick with the forum Ruth it's been a fantastic support to so many.

I know I will still be popping in for years to come x
