Hello it's just been confirmed that my final draft proposal is complete and have now booked in for a chat with Mel next week - can i just ask what is this phone call for? is it just to go over the figures that Marc has completed to confirm everything? or is it for another reason... sorry one phone call rolls into another at the moment... do i need anything to hand before this phone call happens... I still feel embarrassed and ashamed to be in this mess just want to get it all sorted for my children's sake and my sanity... Just had to say no to my eldest son for a school trip abroad in July... heart wrenching as he was crying but he said he understood bless him - just wish i wasnt in this mess and wish i wasnt such a pushover in my previous marriage...

The phone call will be a chat to make sure they have everything correct and that you understand the ins and outs. Mel will want to know all is in order and to answer any outstanding questions you may have.

Don't be embarrassed and definitely not ashamed (you have done no worse than the banks and governments themselves --- think of it as a 5 year austerity plan).

Good on your son for understanding. You must be very proud of him.

Hi Spanna. Your call with Melanie is nothing to worry about. I had mine last week. She will want to know if you are happy with all the figures that Marc put together for you and if you have any questions/doubts. I was a bit nervous too before the call ( I told Melanie)but she is lovely and very reassuring. I think it is her way of saying that she is there for us. I read posts that some IP`s do not get to talk with their clients but with Melanie is different so we are the lucky ones Spanna.
I understand your feelings about being embarrassed and ashamed but you have to try and relax a bit. You doing the best you can to get your debts sorted and to give your children a better future. They will be very proud of you and they will always love you,no matter what.

Yes I am very proud of my son, he understands more than i give him credit for.. I'm just a born worrier that's just who i am and i like to know the next steps and what to expect with that too..
I have spoken to Melanie previously and told her at the time i was nervous and worried about the call but she put me straight at ease.. We know we are very lucky to have found this forum and extremely lucky to be in the very safe capable hands of Mel and her team.. It has been a very tough 5 years previously - im hoping the next 5 are a little smoother and at least there will be an end in sight - i actually dreamt last night that our iva was approved and i wrote numbers 1 - 60 backwards on sticky notes and peeled each and every last one of them away in my dream as the months went by.. I seem to eat breathe and now sleep with this iva ha ha x

That is actually a good idea, the sticky notes! I may have to write numbers 1-72 because I have Northern rock as a creditor but never mind.

Spanna, since we started our IVA journey we actually have more money to spend on essentials, than we did when struggling -- we even have a couple of quid in a savings account (pretty much a first for me ! ).

Also had my chat with Marc today, have been through my proposal. Made a few changes and hopefully will be drafted next week. Everything will be fine Spanna. Me and my wife met Met Mel 5 weeks ago and all my info was logged then. Meeting Mel and her team was the best thing we have ever done. Also have a son of 10 and will dread the day we cant afford to send him on a school trip. Hopefully like foggy said we may be able to save a little bit. Even though the IVA will be tough, it should be a lot better than our lives over the last few years- i think we were paying £1600 a month each to our creditors and then drawing on the money.

An IVA is not easy, but as foggy says if your budget is set correctly then you may e fortunate enough to be able to save a little...we found our IVA very rewarding and really changed our lives and the way we think of money

Spanna your eldest sounds like my youngest. I have 4 but she's the only one it's affected as the others have all left home. They are mature and believe me they grow up quickly and if he's anything like my daughter he'll be as frugal as she is now (she's a student at uni).

An IVA isn't easy but with having allowances for everything I was at last able to have food and clothes instead of every last penny going on bills x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

My closure chats are simply to make sure that you are happy with the figures, to make sure you have included all creditors, and to confirm that you have fully considered all of the debt solution options available to you, and still feel the IVA is the best way forward. It is also a chance to make sure that you have been well looked after by my team so far, and to give an insight into what is going to happen once the IVA has been accepted - which we hope it will. Nothng to worry about at all. I love my chats with clients, and am proud to say that with around 800 live cases I can still remember the specific details of most of my chats.
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner
