Fireworks

Am I the only person fed up with the continual fireworks? We got home on Friday night and there's been fireworks every night, even on Saturday when it was pouring with rain!

I went for a run tonight (yes, you did read that right!) and I could hear the bangs over my iPod!

I just feel so sorry for the animals. Harry doesn't seem too bad with them (I think they just disturb his sleep!) but I can remember my mum's last dog shaking and whimpering as she was so scared. It was a blessing when she got old and was deaf.

I think fireworks should only be available for professional displays, and they should only be on 5th November and the closest Saturday.

I don't want to sound like a spoilsport, but I hate thinking of animals suffering.

I'm with you on that one. Nia has practically been living under the bed the last week. There are gangs of kids up the road and every night between midnight and 3am they set off rockets and bangers. I'm not interested in bonfire night anymore. I just worry about my cat.

I probably sound like a right misery guts, but I don't like bonfires either - I was reading about how many hedgehogs are burnt to death because they try to hibernate and people don't check for them before lighting the fire.

We've been lucky so far - haven't heard any. Mind you, that could be 'cos hubby has the TV on so loud [:D]

I agree they should only be sold for organised events, I remember taking the girls to displays and they were the longest, coldest nights ever. All that standing around to go "Oooo Aaaaaa"!

I could do with a firework to bung Latchford up though ...only joking!- he pee'd against hubbys wardrobe this morning! He does it on purpose I'm convinced!

I totally agree. My two dogs hate fireworks. Suzie in particular is a nightmare, she shakes so much.

I shall be glad when they have gone.

Definetely organised events only.

casey hates fireworks.. she's a quivering wreck.. Isaac seems unconcerned up to now.. Casey hasn't been so bad this year, but I really think she maybe going deaf, as she's not as alert as before.. Just another one to her list of ailments!!
Got to keep her on her lead as she runs away still when she does hear them..

Mrs Wizz and I are lucky in that there are no kids in our village ... In fact I think I'm the youngest here, so we don't have the aggravation of Bonfire night, mischief night and/or Halloween. but we used to have some wonderfully boozey New Years Eve's ... but I had to give up drinking cos I kept falling over.

my parents have 3 springer spaniels 1 loves fireworks the second a rescue dog cowers shaking and loses control of her bowels literally she has to have lights on and cuddled the third another rescue dog cowers and shakes and howls
my neighbours decided new years eve to have a party no warning and started setting off fireworks bear in mind the garden is about 10 ft square and my cat was outside at the time and i couldnt get him in as he'd have to pass the fireworks to get to the door
i think proffesional displays far better and less likelyhood of any accidents and you then know to keep your pets in at set times too

It is now 9th November, 4 days after Guy Fawkes night, so why does it sound as though the Battle of the Somme is being reinacted outside?!?!

Last night was bad - some inconsiderate sod a few doors away decided to start loosing his off at 10.40 last night! No early night for us then as the dogs would have been able to hear them when we went up to bed.

Tonight isn't too bad, but I think the weather has a lot to answer for there. It's been torrential rain for most of the evening. It's eased off now,but everywhere is just totally wet.

I normally enjoy fireworks very much and went along to my local display yesterday.

However the final firework just consisted of a long series of extremely loud bangs with no visual interest whatsoever.

As I was quite close I started to appreciate what it might be like to experience shell shock.

I think I feel a letter to the local paper coming on.
