Hello again. Be ready for a lot of posts from me over the next months/years!!I was told by my financial adviser that I will have to meet with my potential IP and discuss with them how I got into all this debt. Is this standard proceedure? Do I hang my head in shame and confess all? [:I] As yet I have not signed a letter of Authority
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

Hi linda

Since 1 April 2007, it has not been essential to meet with your IP personally, unless you are self-employed or have a complex case. I, however, recommend face to face meetings as you will get a much better appreciation of your situation and procedures to be followed.

There is not hanging of heads in shame! Your IP is working for you, and ought to give you the very best advice possible in terms of the options available. I suggest you telephone round a few companies first, to see what sort of standard of service they provide. And do read my blog on choosing an advisor, as there are some helpful questions there you may wish to pose.

Look forward to answering all future posts for you!

I never met with my IP and my IVA was approved last October - should I have met him?

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

That is what our professional guidelines stated prior to 1 April. It is all rather retrospective in your case though!

Strange. You would think for such a serious situation you would want to meet your IP. The person I eventually choose to be my IP is going to meet with my creditors (of whom there are many) and present my IVA proposal. I think I need the opportunity to assess this person beforehand. I am hoping this person is at least smarter than me! [:)]

I am in a state of perpetual anxiety worrying about my debts
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

I was just curious Melanie. Anyway, they were in Manchester and I'm in Surrey so there was no way I could have afforded to get there! I was referred to Accuma by Thomas Charles, but with hindsight (oh what a wonderful thing!) I would have asked for an IP closer to home who I could have met face to face. I was just so grateful that something was being done about my problems that it didn't occur to me.
