Natwest are good as are the Co-op and Yorkshire Bank for basic accounts.

Good luck with the banks and enjoy your sparkling water! I have a glass of cider at the side of me at the moment!

Another thing that may be worth saying - is there are now credit unions out there who offer accounts with Debit card etc. Whats on offer will depend on where you live etc./and the credit union themselves

May save having to do down the "think banking" route @12.50 p/month

That's interesting Ginger.

I certainly wouldn't pay for a bank account unless I had to.

What's a credit union? Is it like one of those community micro-finance thingys?

Similar to (a small version of) Co-op - they tend to be very local, they allow people to save /have small loans/run accounts etc,

Google "credit unions+bank account"

Its always another option from the hight street banking

Lloyds do a basic account, but the Co-op are always good and you don't need a branch close by as you can pay in through the Post Office.

I'll store that in the memory bank to try and help other posters with it. Do you think they would also offer people a chance to rebuild their credit rating through small loans without the awful APRs we generally get?

Obviously the loan comes after the IVA :-)

As far as i know - the credit unions dont let you borrow unless you have pay some savings in.

It just oother option to a bank account as i have on head people using "think banking" and at £12.50 p.month - it good to look at other options

I think you are right with credit unions Ginger.

Paid for accounts are ok if you can't get a free one, but there are other ones other than Think Banking.

Try the Secure Trust bank account. You get a pre-paid card and full electronic banking, with loyalty points to earn from a variety of shops and internet sale outlets. If you have to pay for banking - and no-one should - you may as well get your money's worth.
