I keep getting flyers in the post from companies saying that an iva may not of been the best option for me and they can redcuce my payments/debt term and protect my home. Has anyone else had such flyers the last one was from IVA debt line - are they just rubbish or worth looking into?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Do not believe these companies, they are just out to make money from you. They trawl the Insolvency Register and cannot possibly know your circumstances so do not know if an IVA was right for you or not.

If you are happy with your IVA then continue with it - if you are having problems then speak to your IP in the first instance. Do not use these companies though. We refer to them as ambulance chasers.

You will just end up out of pocket.

Hi whit9069,

Most likely rubbish- if you have already discussed other options such as bankruptcy then there is nothing that these companies can offer you.

How many do you get? We saw a brief decline after a few of these companies were shut down, but it seems as though they are back to their old tricks.
Take care,

There do seem to be a lot of them about at the moment, but of course the register was down for a fair while so they're obviously having to catch up.

Hi whit9069

If you are already in an IVA and are comfortable with it and feel that you have been well advised, then I am sure you are doing the right thing and you should simply ignore companies like this.

As Jan has said, if you have any concerns at all, the first port of call should be your IP.

If you feel that the IVA is the wrong solution for you and you are unable to maintain the payments, then again speak to your IP. Alternatively if you feel you have been ill advised, speak to a debt management expert who can explain your options.

I used to get those upto about my 3rd year into the IVA, maybe they've realise it's pointless sending their rubbish after that because of course they are wrong and you obviously become their wrong type of customer when you can survive so long on that so called mis-sold IVA... :-)
Last Payment - November 2011 - Completion Certificate received 2 weeks after last payment, Removed from Insolvency Register within 4 weeks after last payment.

I do wonder if they actually check how long you have been in, or they just see the magic initials IVA and that's good enough for them!

Ask yourself the question - how can these firms possibly have any idea about your personal circumstances or the events surrounding your decision to enter into an IVA. At best this is an invasion of your privacy and at worst complete mis-selling on their part and harrassment.
