There are bargains to be had everywhere if you look hard enough and don't mind a little traipsing between shops, the forum has got me as keen on saving the pennies as I can.

Some examples, off the top of my head, I have from different outlets in Sale, near where I live.

3 litres 1% milk £1.80 (ish), purple bottle, in Tesco.
2 times 4 pints milk £1.50 in Farmfoods
2 Hovis loaves for £1 again in Farmfoods
3 750g back bacon for £5 in Farmfoods, I was reluctant to buy frozen bacon but the quality is excellent, that amount will last us a month.
Quality brand shampoos and conditioners, £1 each at Quality save, who have quite a few decent deals. 125ml colgate is £1 again, 1 litre Fairy liquid (ad hoc basis sometimes) £1.29. Massive jar Nescafe £2.25 ish (fairy and nescafe have foreign labels on, Germany and Brazil but are the pukka stuff) 2 massive kitchen rolls, quality quilted type, £1. 9 pack quality quilted loo roll (sorry) £2, Box of Tetley tea bags £1. Listerine mouthwash 250ml is £1, though bizarrely the 500 ml is £2.45 you may as well buy 2 small ones. I could go on for ever, there are great deals on stuff like multipack Walkers crisps, fresh orange juice, your bits and bobs for the kids for those with families etc at these types of stores and generally it is all excellent quality.

Safe to say I am now a little obsessive about doing the family shop, but I estimate that we save anywhere between £40 to £70 per week in comparison to my letting Mrs Size do the shop just in the one store, it really is worth the effort, especially if you have the amenities nearby to be able to do it.

Regards.

Walkers multipack crisps are brilliant in Asda at the moment - two 26 packs for a fiver!

There are some things I won't compromise on - eggs have to be free range or barn reared at a push and my meat has to come from the local butcher. Might be a bit more expensive but the quality is much better than that from the supermarket.

I'm quite lazy, I do all my shopping in Tesco, apart from meat which comes from the butcher and fish which is delivered. I agree about eggs Jan, I'd rather go without than eat battery eggs.

All our supermarkets are spread around, so I have to choose one or else by the time I've taken petrol into account I won't save anything!

We have fish delivered as well every three months. I can have my pick of supermarkets, all within easy distance but we stick with Asda and use Tesco for top up shopping. Bread is bought from the local bakery.

I always shop at work, just makes more sense, no petrol needed as im already there, staff discount and my clubcard points, plus i tend to know whats on offer a week before anyone else!! lol!

Certain things i have to buy due to allergies and thats Baby Shampoo, as i get a nasty rash with other shampoo's and also Sanex shower stuff, i tend to stock up a bit when they are half price or bogof. I have weeks when my shopping is £60-£70 but thats once a month when i get washing stuff, rest of the month i can live off £25 and that includes meat or cheese and bits for my sandwich box for work. I don't get a meal allowance for work :-(

Meant to add, i buy my bread from work, as i know who has made it and normally me!! nice to get stuck in, made a lovely batch of Rustic Farmhouse yesterday, had to bring one home yum!!

For shampoo and conditioner I use Poundland. Deodorant is from Asda and is less than £1 for a 250ml aerosol and it's brilliant. Washing powder I buy in the big packs and they last me for ages.

Natural smoked haddock (filleted and boned!) and prawns is what we usually have. I don't do exotic!

I have to be careful what washing powder we use, but luckily Tesco own brand seems to agree with me. Toothpaste has to be Sensodyne (it's that or have my tooth out!) deodorant has to be Dove. I've tried cheaper brands, but it's not worth changing.

I find the Fairy Non-Bio gel works a treat for me, manage to get a full month out of the one bottle and a bottle of fairy fabric conditioner as well. Not sure where my sensitive skin comes from, no one else has it, and my brother is a sod for blocking the washing machine up with cheap powder, was itchy at work the other day, was so bad i had to put my whites on and hide in the bakery!!

Must admit that I can use any washing powder. I do use branded stuff though, same with fabric softenener. It tends to be whatever is on offer.

Kallis do you like trout? If so next time we come to you, I'll bring you some, freshly caught (dependant on season) filleted and smoked, hubby and daughter love it! Hubby catches it, neighbour does the rest, not for me though, I just couldn't!

Has anyone tried the Aerial actilift that you can use low temperature washes for, do they work out ecconomical? I keep wanting to try but someone said you'd still need to put one hot load through per month to clean the machine. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I've never tried it Lesley but willing to give it a try!

Not tried the Actilift - can't help with that. Most of my washing is done on 30 degrees and I do one a week on 95. The machine is hot and cold fill. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I do the majority of my shopping @ Tesco but recently it has been getting more and more expensive so been shopping @ B&M Bargains for crisps, biscuits, tinned items etc!! And I have discovered Lidl!! Their fresh fruit is fab.

Our food allowance is currently £392 for 2 adults 1 child but I may raise that next year because some weeks I am tight on budget.
