he did say telephone banking and I beleive he said after he meant internet banking may be vice versa. I am not knocking dd's if they work, its when they dont work they are very expensive.

Fortunately, they work for me and hopefully always will.

We are never going to agree on this one Paul.

Mine work, but we don't agree on bank accounts Paul, and I don't think we ever will.

It woudn't do if we were all the same though would it? What a boring forum this would be!

Does it make a difference though that you are not in this country Animaleyes?

DDs are fine when they work, and if you are careful and budget when the bill comes in each month (either online or by post) they make life a lot easier.

I thought an IVA was meant to be manageable, and if someone is struggling and cannot make their bill payments in full then the IVA payments have been set too high and maybe should be reassessed.

Skippy, the DD issue is about the fluctuations in amounts taken and being able to budget better by using different methods not that the IVA budgets are set incorrectly. I think if everybody was good at budgeting then thier would be far fewer IVA,s in the first place. I think if we went back a few years and selected the most appropriate method of budgeting for our needs then I beleive there would be fewer of us insolvent. If you can budget on the back of a cigarette packet and it works then its the best method for your circumstances.

Well my situation is forced on me as I get paid into a Czech bank account and the cost of transferring money to my UK account isnt worth it (although Accuma DID can you believe, at one point insist that i HAD to have a DD and i must transfer money from my CZ to UK accounts)

I've had LOADS of trouble with Accuma in the past with DD's so even if i had a UK account i'd try to get around it.

Luckily I've got a full Visa debit card too.. They even offered me an overdraft.. No thanks!

Most of the time DD's are fine.. Accuma... shocking!! lol :)

The point I was trying to make is that my DD's (other than council tax and water rates, which is once a year) don't fluctuate at all. I know exactly what payments will be coming out every month and on what date, which allows me to budget with no problems.

Agreed Jan and it sounds like the best solution for you but my point is it won't be the best for everyone.

Yeah,, mine were okay in the most part

Accuma just kinda scared me off DD's by changing the amount TEN times in six months and i wasnt even in arrears or just passed a review.. 10 letters confirming the amounts.. Now i can choose the day i pay (within reason) which can make a bit of difference as i can save a bit on the exchange rate if its on a downward spiral :)

I can laugh about it these days :

It may not be Paul, but I also think a paid for account for someone who is already having to sort out a tight budget is not good either when you can get free banking.

I agree Jan. £10 or £12 a month is a lot when you haven't got a lot to start with, and if I was paying it I'd want a full bank account like the Secure Trust Account.
