hi there
Another case of fraud here,
I checked my barclays bank account today as I use a program of my money on my computer and noticed a payment went out for £30 to o2 prepay. i thought that were old as im not a prepay customer im on contract and payments for that come out of my natwest bank account. I called barclays to report this and they have put my account on hold until I recive my new card (5-7 days) Barclays told me to call o2 and give them the tranaction reference to see what the number were that recieved this money. Due to data protection they cant tell me the number, for gods sake its my money!!! Im to recieve a new card as said and a fraud report form and ive been told that barclays will give me the money back but what stops it from happening again? someone, somehow managed to get my details but how. Its so frustrating. added to that my car is at a ford dealer having its first mot and service and im not able to pay cos i cant use my barclays account and the other account doesnt have enough in. What a nightmare.
Sorry for the rant lol

I don't blame you for ranting johnp, I would in your situation! Can you get the cash out from a Barclays branch to pay for the car?

I hope the car passes it's MOT and the service isn't too expensive!

maybe it's not my pc then?
that's exactly what has happened on mine. I'm with barclays and it's a £30 payment to o2.
sounds like it could be a problem on barclays side.
I'll have a play with avg but adaware hasn't picked anything up either and that's up to date!
I think I'm going to have to completely reboot xp as it's completely unstable at the moment. It's hit and miss if windows loads or not!

AVG will at least mean that any viruses can't get through. Adaware and Spybot are mostly for spyware.

AVG is anti virus.

hi skippy the car passed! YES! lol
the car had a few problems the biggest was the suspension, some bearing had collaped which was making it hard to steer even with power steering lol the problems were sorted on the warranty which is good news for me and the service were £250 so not as bad as i thought it would be needs new brakes soon but ive already bought them £50 from unipart going to fit them myself so that saved me about £150 in total. As for drawing cash from the branch id never thought of that so ill try that tomorrow Good thinking Thanks [:)]

Hi pixie
i wouldnt of thought its any think to do with your pc, when i called barclays thay said that if i had paid for something over the phone or online anywhere, whoever deals with your order 'could in therory' write your details down and take them home to use to say top up their mobile which they obviously did in our cases but how you protect yourself from this is hard unless you never buy online or over the phone. They need these details card number, expiry date, 3 numbers on back of your card, your surname, your address. all of these details are given to complete an order and if the person that takes the order can write all this down they could be getting free top ups for life, or whenever someone works out a way to stop it.
Cheers John

I'm glad it passed John! I dread taking my car for an MOT as I'm always convinced it's going to fail!

me too a weight off my mind. The car has been nothing but trouble since I bought it i thought it would fail on something. its probably getting its own back for crashing it into a tree in snow on the first day back to work from cristmas
If I had my way i would sell it and get something new but being in an IVA its not possible so i hope it'll be problem free for the remainder of my IVA (one can only dream!)

at least there's some good news John! my car failed it's very first mot but has been as good as gold ever since!
They should be able to sort you out with some cash within the branch. I'm off on friday so I'll give it a go then and get a statement so I can start claiming it back.

That's awful to happen Pixie, it has not happened to me yet but I know few people who had this with their cards! And the money was used over the internet to purchase goods. I have this thing about when using cards to make sure they dont go away with your card when you buy something, Like in restaurants they have these hand computer gadgets that you use to pay so you can see what you are keying in etc. and the card is handed back to you straight away. It's when the card is taken away to process the transaction is when I would be nervous as they can be cloned. All the best with your claim but from others I have heard that bank will reimburse it in time.

Johnp regarding your post with your car MOT I'm pleased it all went Ok but then in an IVA these are variable expenses that like me we dont always allow for them in expenditures. I did not initially but next month my car is due it's big annual service and god knows what needs doing but I have just sent in my overdue A&E which has allowed for this so fingers crossed!

Hi Pixie sorry to hear your bad news i must admit this it a worry of mine, i always use my card in a bank if not near to my home as my ex was a victim of this having used his card at a petrol station hole in the wall. I hope you get sorted and not too much distress or disruption caused by these mindless idiots.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.

This has also happened to us twice, both times with Barclaycard. On both occasions the fraudster used our card number to top up their mobile phone with vodafone. Someone from Barclaycard fraud department suggested that our details may have been passed on following making a purchase on the Carphone Warehouse website? They said they had been investigating them for a while. We did get the money back and new cards through very quickly but we never heard the outcome of the investigation.

It does make you very wary of using the internet, especially when using your debit card!

And of course don't forget all the nasty people who put the false slots over the hole in wall card entry. It's quite easy then to get your details and they can be very sophisticated these days.
