I can thoroughly recommend Cifas. It costs about £11 a year but if you are out of any IVA or BR, then it is money well spent.

The credit file of the victim would be black marked!For how long you mght say? Future loans are affected too. That's one of the consequence of ID fraud. There is no co-ordination between Bank depts and thats why even though the cards were stopped the fraudent mortgage was granted.
On a similar note - since my IVA began, Barclays' have refused to issue me with a cheque book which doesn't really bother me actually, and after reading the article in the Sunday Observer today(link below)I am quite relieved not to have one!

I have to say that cheque fraud is not as bad as it used to be. The big thing now is the credit card cloning, and the cash machine skimming.
Working in the police service, in my department we have noticed a distinct drop in cheque fraud. That's not to say it doesn't happen, but we get very little coming in now.
